Vet says he has colitis - probably brought on by eating something he shouldn't but just as likely he's prone to it. He is pretty good at leaving stuff, but maybe have to do a bit more work.

So another 24 hours of not eating just some rehydration stuff, few days of tinned food for sensitive tummies and antibiotic/anti-inflammatory then moving him on to a new feed Hills for sensitive tummies. We can then try him again on James Wellbeloved, but if he doesn't take to that, back to the Hills.

Hopefully that will do the trick. Vet says he's perfectly healthy and even though he's lost some weight he's a big enough boy just have to see how he goes. He's a bit flat today.

I have similar issues so know how he feels. Still, blooming expensive bit of crap he ate!

hey suzanne,

My Keano has the same sort of thing but the last time i was at the doctors ie my GP i gave him all the symptoms he was suffering from and the GP thinks hes got something along the line of IBS.

Symptoms are very very similar to Otto.

Just to let you know vets are on commission if they sell Hills whatever type it is, we fell for the trap aswell (which is so annoying coz your meant to trust your vet) However the boys are now on Burns and are doing really really well on it!! No yucky tummies all!!!

Vets only study food for animals for something like 7 days of a 7 year course!!

Don't know if this will help you any!

xx

That's very useful. I suspected as much so only bought a small bag. He generally eats James Wellbeloved and before he got ill was fine on it so once the Hills is finished, I'll try him back on JW. But Burns is a good shout if that doesn't work.

He's been on Royal Canine tinned food for the past 3 days and also had some antibiotics/inflammatories and is much better though we have to watch him as he has been eating his poo which he doesn't normally do. But he's back to his normal bouncy self thankfully.

I am a bit worried about what to give him now eg training treats, but guess it's just a case of adding things in one at a time and watching what happens.

I went through exactly the same process for myself until I sussed that prawns and fresh chillis were no nos.

If you add a little raw courgette to his food, he will stop eating his poo. I had this problem with one of mine and a couple of weeks stopped it. This was suggested by Edinburgh Vet School. Good luck.

I have one in the fridge needing eating - so good call.

He doesn't normally eat rubbish and poo, just every now and again and he will leave it if I catch him, but little git sneaks back later so it's been instant poo pick up this week.

The boys get burns treats as well as they are wheat free and easy to digest.
Some raw carrot aswell is always good!
