Joint Supplements?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone knows of a good Supplement I could give to Cain, he had a operation on his back leg about 6 months ago and its very stiff. I am moving him on to a raw diet and think this will help a little but I think he will need more than this.

Any suggestions? Confused

Gluocosamine.
Easy to pick up at any supermarket or health store now. But it's considered excellent for joint care in dogs. Also another thing worth thinking about is a magnetic collar. Very Happy

Diesel had elbow displascia as a puppy and it looked like he'd need surgery. We took him to see a specialist after being referred by the vet. When the specialist saw him (a couple of weeks after we'd bought and put on a magnetic collar) he couldn't believe it was the same dog. According to the Xrays he was expecting to see a VERY lame dog. He said we should never remove the collar that it was in no doubt helping him.
Honestly, within hours of putting it on him he went from being extremely lame and crying to trotting around the garden!

It's homeopathic and non evasive too.......... so nothing to lose by giving it a try. Very Happy

my step dad uses Gluocosamine, and my gran used magnets. both really good.

Thanks guys lets see how he gets on with them, his leg can get quiet bad especially if he has been lying down for a while. I think it hurts when he sits coz when I ask him to do it he knows what I'm saying and asking but he gets stressed out and paces before he does it and he does it very slowly and cries a little.

Hopefully this will sort him out! Thanks again occasion5

oh, sounds like it Fiona. Poor big guy. Hopefully a combination of a good diet, supplements and a magnetic collar you'll see a difference.

The more magnets in the collar the better. We chose a leather collar with 11 magnets sewn in all the way around.

Yeah he is a great dog and I hate to see him like that. I don't think my hard floors help right enough! I'm sure his diet is a big part in it being so bad. He ate the raw last night no problem so that was a relief.

hard floors here too Fiona. But when the lounge door is open Diesel runs in and lies on the rug! Laughing

He does have a lovely comfy bed, but he prefers to stretch out on the rug.

I bought two lovely beds yesterday Marcella to come down this morning to find one of them wreaked!! Star did it I could tell straight away!!! He is a wee oh I swore sometimes Laughing

that's the second one he has done that to!

Last one he ripped right open and sat inside it with all the stuffing with just his head sticking out like a sleeping bag! The whole kitchen was covered in ripped fabric and stuffing and is coat was a mess with sitting inside it!! Star is a crazy dog, so full of personality that it can't help but make me laugh. Laughing

I've been there ........... lovely Snoozzee bed from Costco and it was Murphy when he was a pup....... chewed and pulled the fluff out.

but the beds I have now are really good. Very tough fabric and they haven't been chewed!!!!!!! I think my two are past that stage though.
You've got another 3 years to wait! Laughing

Lets see three years that's probably about another 300 beds!! And poor Libby is great never does anything wrong but Star always makes sure he gets them both in to trouble. Little devil Twisted Evil

Nothing to add on the supplement question, but on the sitting, why dont you try teaching Cain the stand command, and then he can do that rather than sit all the time, while his leg is healing.
Pixel learned this quickly and will stand preferably to sitting on hard floors.
Its usually greyhounds and bony dogs who find sitting on hard surfaces a bit more difficult though with Pixel's fixation on treats she certainly doesnt have a bony bum Mr. Green
