Hi everyone thanks for all the advice. Jack is better today i think the steroids are helping as its not as inflammed and hes not scratching it so its getting chance to heal.

Youch that looks sore!! Dermisol is brilliant healing cream if you can get your hands on some.

If your not happy with the vet, go to another one immediately.

I would agree with Marcella, this looks like a reaction to something, almost looks like a chemical burn, but antihists would certainly calm down any allergic reaction.

poor boy, looks really really painful. hope he is better soon

FWIW, I won't take Doogle to see Mrs Lawrie for anything important.. dealt with her a couple of times and that was enough for me.. she prescribed meds for Doogle in dosages completely different to the recommended (I know plenty enough about human meds to know she goofed, and wasn't just going 'off script'). Good tip for anyone... check the vet's label against recommended dosages!

As a woman with many allergies, it looks like contact with something he's allergic to that has physically got on his skin or which is in regular contact with his skin. And if you remove the cause, it will calm down. If you don't or can't, it won't and you have to live your entire life on antihistamines!!! Not that I'm bitter.

As John said, it was something he was breathing it, the effect would be inside or if it was a sting, there wouldn't be so many bumps.

Something on the grass looks a likely candidate - maybe just keep his nose away from grass for a few days or until a big downpour (eh like today!) Stick to sniffing lamposts.

Not that i'm a vet or a dog (watch it!) but I did have to go to Barcelona with a similar reaction round my eyes once - lovely!!
