You must be very worried about him Alison but hopefully since he has been treated promptly the medication should help and you will see a difference soon. I hope all goes well for the wee soul and that you don't wear yourself to shadow worrying about him. Fingers crossed and keep us posted. Lots of love

aww poor tom, get well soon.
sorry to hijack this thread but it is topic related, as some of you know i work part time in a kennel, and as summer is coming in and some of you well be jetting off and kenneling your dogs, i just want to let you know that the kennel cough vaccine only covers one strain, there are about 5 different strains, the same as the human flue (only telling you this as some kennels say your dog must have it, while others say its up to you if you want your dog to have it)
if you do get it, have it done at least two weeks before the dog goes into the kennels as the kennel proprietor has the right to refuse your dog if it is within this time, as the vaccine is a live vaccine and can be contagious to other dogs (a bit of a bummer if you have a plane to catch) we have had problems like this at the kennel where the vet has told the owner the dog is fine to go strait in to kennels but its not.
you may on the other hand have a good kennel who will put your dog into isolation for the remember of the incubation period.
will try to find the info my boss printed out from the Internet about this and pop it on the forum.
all the best for tom getwell soon _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

Oh, poor Tom, hope he is better soon.
Try not to worry too much, my wee Scooby has had it and he is a wee old man and has other problems too, and he came through it fine
Good post Kendal, thats interesting to know, none of mine have been vaccinated for it _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

i would just like to add that i was told that the only time the kennel im at ever had a kennel cough out brake was about 5 years ago and the only dogs affected were the ones who had been vaccinated for it.
i am not trying to scare anyone, mum got out two done before they went into kennels last September (i think) and they were fine. just wanting to pass on info i learn at the kennels. _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

I hope Tom gets better soon. Take care.
Thanks for the info Kendal.
Simply because they are on frequent contact with other dogs, I always get mine vaccinated in case. Although I know it doesn't cover all varieties. _________________ Regards,

Alison you can check with the vet to see if you could use kids benelyin. I was advised this from a friend before but double checked with the vet first but this was almost 5 years ago not sure if anything has changed in it now. it helped with sheilas constant hacking. |
