We don't have him on a prong, so can't answer that one.
We didn't even try to hold on to him when he shot off as he'd have broken his neck or ripped the skin off the hand. But mostly he would stop first before he bolted ie when he saw another dog or a rabbit, stand on the line before the bolt and tug and break the concentration.
Just gradually build up the distance you will let him go online, then off it before doing a recall...you'll know yourself how much you can trust him. Just practice in wide open, but enclosed areas so even if they're not perfect, they're still safe.
And always praise a recall, even if the little git has been running around with a stick taunting you.
After Otto's operation, we had to go back to the long line for a few days as he'd been cooped up and was just being naughty. he's ok now - but I still don't expect 100% - like on Saturday he ran off to play with some labs, and Ian had to go and get him, but I just carried on walking and he came running after me...Ian has less trust than I do haha. I knew he would just play for a while then come after us. |

Just to double check something please. He has chewed the loop /handle of his long line apart. I am assuming, if I remember correctly, that this is not really needed anyway,as it could end up getting caught up in outdoor shrubbery etc . Can someone please keep me right on this? _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

if it's on the drag line then don't worry about it. As you said it's less likely to get caught on anything if it's got no loop on the end. |
