I probably already know the answer to this, but do young dogs go through a terrible teens phase where they dont listen, grow some attitude and are generally a right PITA?

I've said this before - I had a teenage stepson and a teenage male dog at the same time and they were largely the same.

Answered back (Otto likes the sound of his own voice)
    Wouldn't take a telling
    Selective deafness
Totally selfish and only interested in what made them happy
Pushed boundaries to see how far we'd go before we gave in
Excreted onto the carpet - both ends
let us down just when we thought we'd made progress
Acted like morons who had never been school
Gave us heart failure by putting themselves in danger
Showed off to impress their friends

The only thing the dog didn't do was bring strange women back in the middle of night and forget his key. Neither were very good at lying.

Fortunately both seem to have emerged from this as friendly, happy, obedient young men.

The secret with both was to stay calm, have rules and stick to them and - don't expect too much of them.

ahhhhhh - the "terrible teens" phase.

Short lived in this house because I don't tolerate nonsense from my dogs much as I adore them. Yep they TRIED to push the boundaries and got reminded in no uncertain terms what the boundaries were and that I wouldn't tolerate them being pushed. Oh they were persistent and they kept TRYING but I never let em win.

I've true Staffie genes in me and MY will is stronger than the tree of theirs combined! Very Happy

Now if only I had the time to work on those pack walks they'd be nigh on perfect Laughing Laughing Laughing

Oh yes! Just think about Cuthbert and how he behaves at times (a lot of the time) and you've got your answer. Almost word for word what Suzanne said and Otto and Cubs are a very similar age! Good luck! Laughing Laughing

If they're tired they sleep and don't annoy.

Our boy has been on limited exercise for a fortnight - let's just say it doesn't go down well. He's like a coiled spring of annoyingness.
