Hi there,
I was wondering if anyone has any advice to share regarding our 7mt old spaniel pups weeing when they get excited..
They are completely toilet trained (and have been since about 9 weeks old) and never squat or deliberately go in the house, however when they get excited then can and do spray everywhere.
They are crate trained so when we come in we keep it calm and give it 5 mins before they are let out and this has almost eliminated weeing at that point, but when they experience anything new it starts again..
They do it at the vets , we can't take them into the pet shop (even if no-one makes a fuss of them), they do it when they meet other dogs etc..
I have been given to understand that is is a common thing for spaniels so we have not worried too much about it, but I wanted to check if there is anything we can do to help them control themselves when in new situations.
Thanks v much

My sister has 2 springer bitches and they did this when they were young, but they seem to have grown out of as they got more confident. Jack and Deb might have more practical advice. |

We took them over to a friends house at the weekend, and even though we made sure they went before they got into the house, and that the friends were calm and ignored the pups, they still wee'd everywhere..
I don't know whether it's best to punish (well stern talking to!) or to ignore and not stress the pups out.
They are very sociable both with people and other dogs and don't seem to lack in confidence..
It's almost at the stage now where we think twice about taking them anywhere.
Thanks.

Dont worry, this is common in pups - the majority grow out of it.
Saxon does this everytime he sees people he likes - he actually peed all over me yesterday
its pure excited weeing - younger dogs dont have complete control over their bladders!
dont punish it - i know its annoying but they wont know what your talking about!
if it persists till their older, i'd take them for a vet check up to rule out any health reasons. _________________
