Hey
Turns out that Laika has went into her first season today and is spotting all over. We have been looking forward to this as it means in three months we can get her dressed but have been dreading it due to the mess that comes with it. We were just wondering if anyone has any idea how long this will last for. She is an 8 month old Dalmatian.
I assume we shouldn't take Laika to training until this is over?
Cheers

hi keith.....as i have all girls i should know however i had all mine dressed before their first season but off hand i think it is around the three week period it will last.......and sadly no it's not advisable to come to training as every male dog will be sent nuts sensing she's in season and no obedience will be done with their handlers. _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

Hey thanks for the advice.
I didn't realise you could get them done before their first season as our vet insisted on waiting. Anyways nothing can be done about it now I will remember this for the future though.
Cheers. |

vets differ in their advice on when to dress a bitch......but most let you decide. i like yourself allowed my first bitches have a season prior to dressing and then was told it could have been healthier if i had not allowed them to have a first season.
some 11 years on i did have health issues but it could have been put down to just old age and i did have two healthy dogs for 11 and 12 years!
i just made the decision from getting gypsy inca and echo that they would be dressed exactly at 5 and a half months old and booked them in on the same day they went for their second inoculation.
3 weeks seems quite long but it will pass fairly quickly just watch when you are out walking her she will give out a scent and if there is a male dog around he will be very interested in your girl! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........

Hey we never got our 12yr old Jack Russell Tilly (which btw we regret as she had to have a hysterectomy as a result later in life) but when she went in season she only lasted a week. _________________ Kirstin and Craig & Ollie and Maxxy |

Hi all
As mentioned previously in this thread Laika has entered her first season. She is almost two weeks into her season and we were wondering if we would be able to attend training next Sun 04/04/10 or wait another week. In fact it has just crossed my mind, will training be off next week because it is Easter Sunday.
We were also wondering is it normal that Laika has become extremely lethargic and less motivated during her season. She has also been sick and off her food for a short period of time but this is no longer a problem.
Anyways we can’t wait to get back.
Cheers
