Buster my Psychopath westie is obsessively licking his paws legs and also the bottom of his cage to the point where he is making himself sick (white foamy or bile like stuff) although he is doing this through the day he seems to really go for it at night and i mean all night he is on a raw diet so dont know what he could be reacting to and this has been going on for 4 weeks and ive tried everything but no joy. Anybody got any ideas? |

Hey,
As you know Muffin has the same problem. Developed around two years ago where she would obsessively clean her bed before she went to sleep every night. This then progressed to her paw around 8 months ago now i think, originally thought she had a problem with her paw so tried to find the problem for months, its now unlikely the fur on her paw will ever grow back the same and it continually gets matted. Definitely best to put a stop to it now before its entirely uncontrollable. Muffin does it when shes bored, stressed, nervous and for comfort. There is no physical reason for it with her so as soon as I correct her she knows shes done wrong and will stop.
She also does the frothy sick bile thing when shes extremely nervous.
Could be becoming doggy OCD (this is your territory now lol) rather than a reaction? Have you tried distracting him when he starts? Dipping his paw in something nasty tasting and the same with his bed? Have you spoke to your vet, we got some shampoo diagnosed from the vet you could try?
I still cant get her to stop but she seems more comfortable now we have Totts and rarely does it, also the same when she's at Janis' house. Good luck i know how frustrating it can be. _________________ http://www.justgiving.com/Laura-Anne-Innes Please support our cause. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Laura x |

ps. as i say thats just with Muffin, I know now its not a reaction its just mentally with her, so would still speak to the vet since hes being physically sick. _________________ http://www.justgiving.com/Laura-Anne-Innes Please support our cause.
