How many folk here would not pay a ransom to get their dog/s back? Any one at all? Confused

Enid after I had paid to get them back...........I would teach a bit of protection training then I'd take Diesel and Murphy out and hunt them down Wink

That would be well worth seeing! I'll hire your 2 if it happens to mine!

I thought it was illegal to have a dog out in a public place without a collar and tag?

I have a tag with our phone number on it, plus a wee plastic thing saying he's chipped and a number to phone just in case.

Did you see that horrible case on GMTV where a lurcher was stolen from outside a shop and was held to ransom for £750. The police advised against paying it, but the people did it anyway. Seven weeks it was away and came back 10k lighter. Poor thing.

Lovely Great Dane though.

Yes Suzanne it is illegal - I have arranged to obtain collars from john from the club - nice leather half check and i will have it noted they are chipped, never thought about the chip moving Crying or Very sad

Meanwhile my partner lindsay is saying b@llsh!t about the dog collar and asking which legislation covers this - I think he is wrong, I think you do need id. what about dog licences, did they go out with the ark?

our girls ate both chipped and tattooed, they always have a half check on with one of the wee emergency tags that you call to give the code on the tag to find the owner. should probably get one of the 'im chipped' or 'im tattooed' tags for them.

not all of the dogs we get in the kennels have any id tags, even the ones with collars.

I am in love with yet another Dane! I want another one! She does look a bit like our Basil. Beautiful Lady!
By the way police in Scotland do NOT have scanner so can not scan your pet for a chip if they turn up lost. One of my first priorities when I win the lottery is to buy a scanner for every police station.

Lorna,

I'll second that about giving every Police station a microchip scanner - our local station does not have a scanner and it would have saved a whole lot of heartbreak with Roxy if they did one, I can tell you, and i'm sure it will cause other people less heartbreak with their pets aswell.

I once met someone whose dog got out the house and done a runner. She contacted the Police station, and all the vets in the area among other places. The Police maintained they did not have her dog - she contacted them a couple of times a day for a few days, they said they didn't have her dog.

Then, this woman spoke to another woman who told her to go to Cardonald herself to check if her dog was there or not as our local Police are hopeless when it comes to lost dogs - which they are, from my experience. The dog warden takes dogs straight to he Police station when they've been picked up and they go to Cardonald the next working day.

So, she went up to Cardonald and sure enough there was her dog, in a kennel. Her dog got taken there the day before and they hadn't bothered to scan the dog for a microchip - the dog was microchipped. At least this case has a happy ending, unlike the case of the forgotten Greyhound in a Police station.
