I'm dithering about Rufus's strip/clip!!

Sorry guys, I am probably being really annoying!

So, last week I was set on getting Rufie hand stripped, and was even thinking that I might look into trying out a bit of showing with him! This week I think that there is no way I will ever do that! It is just another of my meandering thoughts that I change all the time!

And everyone at the walk said how cute he was just as a wee fluffball!

Soo..for those who have saw him...this is Rufus's Mum. Now this is what I was dreaming of him growing up to look like when I bought him!



Do I leave him as a wild, floofy thing, or make him posh like his Mummy!??! lol! Vote please! Why am I so indecisive......??

Both are great, either or, he was a real wee cutie, such a stalky, solid wee man.

His mum is certainly a spectacular looking dog.

You could always have him groomed to see how you like it and let him go more au natural at a later date - that way you can keep your options open.

What you have said is what I am leaning towards...try it out and see how I feel! I think though that once he is done for the first time, he will never get that full 'puppy' look again, as most of that baby fluff will be gone forever!

I am sure he doesn't care himself, he is a typical wee boy, slugs and snails and 'this brush is for chewing NOT grooming my tuggy bits!' The only good point for him is that if he is stripped then it is supposed to make him more waterproof!

I like the scruffy fluffy Rufus! I think he looks like a wee teddy bear.

I like fluffy puppies too, on the other side he should learn early in his live, how it feels to get groomed. Definitely not an easy decision!
The poodle pups get their thirst face shave done at an age of 4 weeks, just too make them feel what it is like to be a poodle.

I like my too a bit scruffy, but there coat mats soo easy, i have to brush the twice a day.

He'll be lovely either way Susan. If you can find someone to handstrip, I would give that a try. I couldn't with mine because they are both spayed and their coats became too soft.

If you don't have him done at all, his undercoat will start to shed and he'll get very matted.

Why not get him stripped and try to get his coat tip top to show?! Then when you decide what you are going to do ( show wise) You can let him go WILD or keep him neat and prim??

I havent seen the wee boy but I must admit I like them short, but they do look so cute when scruffy too im not much help am I, but then I am in the same dilemma only horse wise

Jazz is a Dales pony so as you know like any native they are thick and wooly over winter but I want to do some more showing again next spring/early summer and to have them in tip top show condition they need to be rugged, which I dont want to do and I am not really serious about showing, I did enjoy it but Im only doing it as he is a baby and needs to see as many things as possible while he is young

Rufus was such a cute puppy on Sunday, but he'll look good with a grown up style too.
Trying it out to see how he looks seems a good idea, but I must admit I'd like him to keep just the way he is.

Deborah made a good point. Is he of show quality? Does the papers for Rufus allow you to show him? If so, you could give the showing lark a try, you might just like it.

I'd still give the hand stripping a try, I think it's definately worth it.
