We noticed the day before that one of his ears was curling over at the tip and by yesterday the ear was full of fluid.
He's got an aural hematoma.
here's a link to the condition.
http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body..._hematoma.html

The vet thinks it's been caused by our Northern Inuit puppy biting at his ear.
He's going in on Thursday for an operation so I'm dead worried here as he's 9 1/2 years old. Bless him.
He had a pain killing jab yesterday and is now on Metacam. His ear is now completely curled over and feels heavy.
I think it's much like the cauliflower ears that rugby players get LOL
Here he is on Christmas day

Thanks all. He does seem fine in himself but the puppy keeps pouncing on him.
If I do separate them he goes looking for her anyway Very Happy

If the pup is going for his ears, then you must keep them separated. Besides if he is unwell it is necessary to keep him calm.

He's not unwell really Lorna. He's right in himself and very playful.
Very difficult to separate them as the ground floor of our cottage is all open plan.
He does tell her off if she is bugging him though.

I wonder if you use a crate?

You would then be able to keep the puppy away from him, especially after the surgery.

I hope he is ok on Thursday.

We bought a crate for her and tried it for 4 weeks with no success.
She got so stressed in it and would even mess in it through her paranoia.

We think it's probably to do with a 10 hour journey she had to get to us where she
was cooped up in a crate with the pet transportation people. It seems to have
scarred her as far as being cooped up is concerned.

Someone is home all day so we will be able to supervise her when Blue has his op.

Try not to worry about him having an op at his age (you will though, we all do) Rosie had to have an op last year when she was between 10 and 12 years old . The op turned out to be bigger than planned but she came through it absolutely fine and there's no reason why Blue shouldn't. Keep smiling, it does help! I'll be thinking about you on Thursday. Blue had his op on Thursday and was also neutered at the same time.

He's doing really well and we took him back to the vet for a check this morning.
They are very happy with him.

He's wearing a lampshade which is not much fun for him but he still manages to play with little Susi.

They've done a really neat job on his ear and he has this thick pad, cut into the shape of his ear and stitched on to the ear itself. It keeps the ear upright and absorbs any seepage.
Roll on next Sat when the stitches are removed and he can get rid of the lampshade on his 'ead.

glad to hear the good news! he will come through no problem!

i can be funny with their lampshade on ! especially when they are trying to get through doors etc! he'll get there!

the majority of the gang are off walking today but will no doubt post later!

if you get a chance pop a photo up of the invalid and we can all feel sorry for him!!! Crying or Very sad

Pleased to hear that he is on the mend.

I expect he will soon learn that bash from the lampshade is extremely painful!

When Jodie wears hers (she has intermittent interdigital cysts) she cracks it off my shins as often as she can! It is definitely revenge! Confused

So happy he is doing better Gwen. If he is anything like my Danes, then he will drive not nuts with the collar. What does the pup think of Blue's new collar?
