Please can someone help me with transport and taking Cuthbert up to kennels as Rosie is ill and I'm waiting for the vet! Crying or Very sad

OK Trisha from Crowbank has just been down to collect Cuthbert herself so now all I have to do is wait for the vet (and pray!)

I'm confused .................. why did Cuthbert need to go to kennels urgently? Have I missed something on an other post? Embarassed

Yes. Rosie is very ill and I felt it best all round if Cuthbert could go to the kennels as A. I was waiting in for the vet to come to her and b. because even if he was in his crate when the vet arrived he would be a major distraction. c. Rosie's need was greater and she was collapsing so I needed fewer distractions.

oh I see. I did read Rosie was ill but just didn't click why you wanted Cuthbert to the kennels.

Yes. He took her up to the surgery..Initial tests show severe anaemia of as yet unknown origin He is about to do an Xray and possibly an ultrasound. No obvious hemorrhage anywhere. He thought she looked a bit jaundiced but hopefully that could be due to anaemia. I'm a wreck. She will need intravenous fluids and maybe a blood transfusion. If that becomes necessary how do I go about finding a donor? Any suggestions?

I just knew there was more to it than joint disease. Unfortunately. When it comes to Rosie's health I'm rarely wrong. In this instance I really wanted to be. I still have a nasty feeling.

I was just thinking , I have read somewhere very recently about a dog donating blood and it was somewhere fairly local. Can anyone remember the article. I think it may have been in a newspaper?

generally your vets will have a system about donating blood, if they can do it they should have dogs which are donors, they need to be over 25kg and fit and healthy, if your vets dont have the necessary equipment, they will refer you to a specialist that will carry it out.

Hope Rosie is OK. I did not know that dog blood donors had to be over 25kg - thanks for that info Suzanne. Fingers crossed for Rosie.

This is now Friday and it has been nearly 2 days since Rosie collapsed. At the moment she seems to be improving slowly and ate a small meal yeaterday. The nurse says she is back to being her grumpy self (an injustice, my Rosie is NEVER grumpy!!! Very Happy

) and is spitting out her tablets! That's my girl , back on form! Seriously though she has still a way to go yet but so far so good!! Just keep your fingers all crossed.

I really appreciate all the offers of help and support I've been given and I love you all!!! Thanks everyone. Keep you posted.! Smile

glad she is on the mend.

as Rosie is away for a bit, would this not be the perfect time for you to do some one on one training with cuthbert, rather than having him in kennels. as you don't have Rosie to cater for just now. and when she comes back you will have to spend more time with her than on cuthbert. i think it would do you both good as you could concentrate on any problems with him.

I didnt know that blood donors had to be that weight either. I knew that greyhounds were good matches for other dogs , though Misty was always such anervous dog, I didnt think it fair to make her a donor, I did always wonder about lurchers and was going to put Pixel forward....but now I know I cant,......though I dont know what weight she is

I am glad to hear Rosie is on the mend and much better Smile

Rosie is still slowly improving, her last blood test showed the problem is due to auto immune haemolytic anaemia which is usually treatable with steroids so we'll see over the weekend how she gets on. So far so good. Me, I'm just trying to catch up on lost sleep and de stress a bit and see what the next few days bring.
