Goldfish are members of the carp family, most that live in a bowl ( Please don't tell me you keep them in a fish bowl this is so cruel) live between 5-8 years if kept in an unheated tank probably around 10 years. If you have them in an outside pond they could live anything up to 40 years. All the above are dependent on nitrite and nitrate levels being kept at 0 for nitrite and ammonia, I would say keep nitrate levels below 10ppm, you can easily achieve this by the correct feeding regime and regular water changes. What type of filtration do you use?

we have had ours for almost 5 years now, and they are still going strong, most goldfish bought in pet shops now have shorter life spans due to over breeding to produce large numbers for sale, this has resulted in a very week population of pet shop goldfish. my friend had one that was over 15years old so some still live quite long Smile

around 22 years if the conditions in your tank are at optimum, proper filters etc. the most common reason for goldfish dying is overfeeding. You should only feed them every two days.

Our goldfish Duck and Bob live in a half barrel in the back garden we have had them for about 8 years now. They were really small when we got them but they are really big now.
