Dew Claws

Hi guys,

After getting his coat trimmed really short, I noticed that Leon's dew claws seem pretty long.

Am assuming that this is "not good" and that they need cut... should I do this myself (not relishing thought) or would a good groomer do it? I don't want to go to the vet unless I have to, as I reckon I've already given them enough money to pay for their summer hols this year!

Any suggestions / recommendations appreciated.

Leon is a wriggler anyway, thats one of the other reasons I don't fancy it much!!!

Well bring the clippers to the glen and i'll hold him (scare him into submission) and you do his nails??

I'VE NEVER HAD A DOG WITH THESE CLAWS AS I ALWAYS ASKED THE BREEDER IF THEY WERE REMOVED!

MY MUM DID HAVE ONE DOG AND IF THEY WEREN'T TRIMMED THEY WOULD CURL ROUND AND EMBEDDED THEMSELVES IN THE LEG AND CAUSED A SORE SO NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS ONLY HAPPENED ONCE!

You can do them yourself. No problem, kid. I get the groomer to trim my Danes as I am not strong enough.

depending on the colour of his claws, it can be quite easy, you can see the vein, so just cut below that and you should be fine, you can get the clotting stuff for cutting claws just in case you cut to far. Rolling Eyes

well thats what i used to do when cutting my cats, and rabbits nails, so far not done a dogs yet!

I try and cut the girls nail every two weeks, i just take the tip of the nail off, just to be safe as Lady has black and white nails Rolling Eyes
