|
|
Dexter went out for his walk this am in the rain and came into work with me for the morning. Dried him off and noted nothing unusual.Did his usual relaxed curled up sleeping until lunchtime. Stretching coming out of his crate, I noticed 2 sore areas the size of 50p. Took him to the vets and she said he obviously had got scratched and infected. has given him steroids and antibiotics. Which is fine. She said to keep them covered, in came JJ's long sleeved t-shirt which has done the trick. Silly question time now.
Do I leave this on when we go out in the rain again, or do I uncover it when we are out if so do I wait until he has fully dried before putting the t-shirt back on.
Things you never think of asking at the time- sillyme |

Where are they, can you put a sock on and tape a plastic bag over it then it keeps it all dry, then tee shirt back on back in the house _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

Thanks to you both. They are where his legs join his body on the front legs. Have just taken him out a short walk with t-shirt off and waiting for him to dry before putting t-shirt back on. He fortunately is not licking them too much and hope he will dry quickly. I think plastic begs or tape would come off because of the amount of motion in that area, but if rain doesn't subside by the am will try that apporach for am walk. Thanks again |

Big bob been to the vets in the last fortnight because his wee oxters were raw and infected. he often has skin problems. Have you tried any home remedy. I have aloe vera gel from Norma and if you were to smear something like that on it may act as a barrier in the rain.
The antibiotics will clear it in a few days. Bob has really bad skin and the antibiotics always work really quickly, though I avoid taking him tilll I have no option, sometimes I am able to clear small patches with the aloe vera and I give him piriton every day when he breaks out. I hate pumping him full of drugs but sometimes I have no choice.
Good luck I hope everything clears up soon. _________________ "In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog." |

Otto either has allergy style rashes or some scratch or other.
I think the key is to keep it clean and not let them lick it - so if it's not at ground level then you're probably ok to let him out without the t-shirt. Just reapply once he's back in.
But we kept him on the lead and away from bushes as one wound got infected just brushing against a twig. |

They are looking much better today and are dry and scabbed over. He has not licked them once today, so I left his t-shirt off when he was at work with me today, will probabaly put it back on tonight. Is the aloe vera gel the same as you would get in Boots or is it special. I have some 100% gel that I use on the kids skin take it this would be OK.
thanks for your help. |
