The RSPCA is a widely known organisation which helps animals in distress BUT it is English based and for the benefit of animals south of the border. Any money raised in Scotland and donated to the RSPCA will go towards animals there regardless of the intention of the donor. Most people donating money in Scotland want it to go towards helping animals in Scotland but because many people automatically think of the RSPCA instead of the Scottish SPCA, the money/legacy must go to England and therefore Scottish animals lose out. So in the future if you want to help Scottish animals via the SPCA, think Scottish SPCA. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

There are a lot of folk that don't know that they are separate here in Scotland.
I agree with the money thing though... I think you can do just as much good by handing in food, blankets etc or volunteering you time to help out
My son used to help out at weekends which was very much appreciated. |

I always knew the difference and I know for many the phrase "Charity begins at home" is something they adhere to but to be honest I don't mind at all where my monthly donations go so long as an animal ANY animal somewhere is helped and if that means I have to help foot the wages bill to allow dedicated carers do that job then so be it.
I'll continue to donate blankets/towels/toys and food too so long as finances permit _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

Personally I wouldn't care whereabouts in the Uk the animals were that were being helped as long as they were being helped. |

Personally I would rather help the Dogs Trust than SPCA/RSPCA and if I was giving them anything it wouldnt be money, it would be in items.
The less I say about my thoughts on them is better _________________ lurchers Pixel and Zev and whippet, Fen

Shirley, I've thought long and hard about whether or not to withdraw my monthly subs following certain details coming to light, some widely known some not so well known BUT I decided to carry on because they do do some good and I just can't ignore that. I do donate to other charities too, I do some Mark does others, just a little each month not big sums but as Asda would say........Every little helps _________________ Staffies are my life! I have really strong views on the pca organisations. People on the forum who know me well will have heard them!!!!!!!!
During my time working with German Shepherd Rescue I have known of more than one case of extreme cruelty to GSDs which the rescue has brought to the attention of the pca's...they have provided documentary and photographic evidence. The pca's have refused to act.
Funny though......these dogs generally 'escape' magically, in the wee hours, through holes that appear in fences and things like that, and the owners never see them again....strange that eh
So no, whether scottish or national.....not a penny from me _________________ "In a perfect world, every dog would have a home and every home would have a dog." |

Fancy those dogs being clever enough to realise noone was going to help them and find a cunning escape route......good on you them!
I know of a fair few cases too where pca have failed to act but I also know of many where they HAVE acted and an animal has been saved. Even if they save only 1 out of 100 that's one that wouldn't otherwise be saved and I'm sorry but I just can't turn my back on that. I don't mean that in a judgemental kind of way kirsty so hope it doesn't come across like that _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |
