Can dogs be fed safely on cat food? Serious question ( not us!) _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

Safely yes, sort of but not in isolation. It has the wrong balance of ingredients to give the dogs all they need. Also it is higher in protein generally than dogs require and has the wrong mix of minerals so isn't correctly balanced. I think, but could be wrong, that it has extra zinc in it - in levels high enough to put pooch but not puss at risk. Your dog will have horrific breath if they eat cat food and the other end will also display the fact that it's not right for their digestion - if you're lucky this will be by breaking wind (and will smell truly horrific) but the more likely result if fed entirely on cat food is that the dog will be constantly loose or alternatively suffer severe diahrroeah which if left untreated and the feeding of cat food continued can become life threatening so not to be recommended. _________________ Staffies are my life! But your friend Tommy feeds RAW - so ask him
All joking aside the answer is yes. Cats CAN be fed Raw with no risk to their health. My Blue Persian Gus was fed RAW way back to when he was first weaned from his mummy but he did have a powder supplement that went onto his food to ensure he got all he needed. I stopped feeding him raw however when I found an entire lower jaw and set of teeth in his raw mince which clearly had come from a rodent
Yeah I KNOW they eat rodents in the wild but my concern was were hygiene standards up to scratch @ the manufacturers premises given it was supposed to be beef mince! He was switched to Hills Science Plan and Whiskas and thrived on it. Back then (about 1990) I only knew of one brand and one place you could get it from.
The 2 Persians I have now are fed on Royal Canin Persian 30 as it's the only thing that doesn't give them the squits - Persians with the squits is sooo NOT nice!!!!
Cats can and do eat dog food but as with dogs eating cat food - it isn't designed for them so will lack the balance of ingredients they require. _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |
