so where is good for the dogs and is there one that gives discounts if two dogs

Just shop around for the best quote, i have Enzo with tesco platinum insurance which works out £17 p/m Very Happy

my three are insured with more than and no discount for multiple dogs!

however just after inca had her spaying she swallowed an old dummy she found and needed surgery to remove it. i had an excess of £70 and the total bill cam to over £500............so well worth it!

i know i wouldn't do without it now!

I don't know of any Pet Insurance policy that allows a discount for multiple dogs, in fact with some breeds, high prey/working/fighting types you could well find the policies are "loaded" rather than discounted to Insure against injuries caused by in fighting and boisterous play.

FAR more important that the cost is the small print. Ensure you read carefully before you sign so that you are fully aware of any excesses be they monetary or timescale related along with any exclusions of breed specific diseases/illness AND whether they have a cut off for long term illness requiring long term treatment - some policies exclude that but you only find out when you need to claim.

Janis - sorry to hear about your little poppet but what if your bill had equalled my friends off my forum?

Lola (GORGEOUS big lazy Staffie) ate a portion of a ball. It wasn't hers, noone knows where she got it from or when she ate it. Cue one dog quite literally at death's door if she hadn't been operated on. She was and the operation thankfully was completely sucessful. Cost?
A whopping £1600!!!!! Shocked

Another of my ladies dogs suffered the same fracture of her leg as my Mitzi did cost to her £1600!!!! Shocked

So is pet insurance worth it - most definately but read the policy wording and terms and conditions thoroughly first cost varies but only minimally peace of mind is priceless. Wink

Oh and before you ask, no I don't sell it so don't receive a commission the above is 100% unbiased Very Happy

We use Direct Line for our current 2 Great Danes. We have used them for 10 years now. They paid out over £4,000 to Glasgow Vet School Hospital for our Beagle, Angel. They paid the hospital direct. We reckon they have paid out £8000 over those years for our dogs. We have rescued several Great Danes and had 2 Beagles over that time.
Some policies specify that you pay and then claim the cost back from the insurance. This is not the best way.
As Jack says you should make sure that they cover any illness for the lifetime of the dog.
Check out the maximum level of cover for any one illness.
They will not cover your dog for any pre-existing illness.
Definitely a worthwhile investment in your dogs' health in my opinion.

It means I organise Insurance but don't Underwrite it for Commercial (Business) clients not Private ones. Private for those that don't know is Household, personal travel, Personal Motor, Health and Pet Insurances and the like. So I have no agenda in the advice I have given above. Cool

You ARE quite correct however in that I can deliver a mean bite when I have a mind Very Happy

We're with MORE THAN, around £25 per month for Great Dane, maybe expensive but he's only 1 and a 1/2 and has run up Vet bills of over £3000!!!

At 6 months old he had suspected bone cancer and required all sorts of MRI scans and Ultrasounds and eventually surgery at Vet School...best £25 per month I spend!

Have had no problems with them paying, £70 excess but thats standard for a big dog I think.
They dealt direct with vet school so didnt have to find the £3000 thank goodness! Wink
