I took Cuthbert out for a walk this afternoon (or at least that was the intention) and we started up a route we have gone many times before. This time though I gave him his new ball to carry then let him off lead. The toerag then immediately turned tail and ran home, across a road at that! He was NOT listening to me or for following me. I was left trailing a long way behind him and NOT pleased! He got home safely though but my feelings were mixed to put it mildly! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
Anyone want to foster a Clumber Spaniel??!!!

One good thing is he went home. Lots of dogs run off and get lost. I'm sure you are just angry he didn't do as he was told. I'm quite sure you don't want him fostered lol.

Maybe he is like Buster and wants to hide his new toy so that no one else can get it. Buster has buried three new balls in the park this week. Jim is going mad because we can't find them

top tip - do training at the start of every walk....sit, stays, etc...reinforces who's boss BEFORE they can do their own thing. We also used a tug toy to engage with him at the start -and at judicous bits in the walk (ie sheep)....something he never gets to keep (goes back in the garage after a walk).....this got Otto's recall from 85% up to 99.5%. We have few issues with him now.

But I also have a motto - act like a child, get treated like a child. Otto used to run off in the morning to delay us going to work (even though he has the teenager at home). He just doesn't get let off the lead in the morning.

Ross thanks for the offer but you've got other priorities just now Wink Wink so I think I'd better hold on to the toerag for a while longer. You and Gordon are both right , it is good that he went home and didn't just disappear and yes I WAS annoyed with him and no I don't REALLY want him fostered.
Suzanne ,thanks for that tip I'll definitely bear it in mind and put it into practice when we venture out. Smile
