Hello All,
I need a wee bit of help? Paddy has started to jump at me and bite me... I want to stop this before it gets serious. He just runs and jumps at me for no reason. I have been pushing him down and telling him "No".....
I can look in his mouth and it looks like the puppy teeth have all fallen out.. Is he just mouthing me because his mouth is sore with his big teeth.... What should I do?

and.collar.ask.him.to.jump.and.as.soon.as.he.does.do.the.above!!!!!!.......he.will.soon.get.the.message!......

This is such a common problem with young dogs. The jumping problem is just to get your attention. As soon as you put your hands on him he has got what he wants, even if it is to push him down. When he jumps up fold your arms and turn round and ignore him. Once he sits give him a treat and praise. When he jumps up before you praise him, just turn round again. The penny will soon drop when not getting any attention from jumping.
With the biting its just play, but with puppy teeth it is sore. We have to teach them that it is not acceptable to do it. When he bites to hard and it hurts, give out a sharp yelp. Take him and put him in the kitchen for 15 seconds and then let him out. Keep doing that until he stops. He just has to learn what he can bite and what he cant.
For the teething thing, try stuffing a Kong with pate or soaked kibble. then freeze it. It works like a ice cream for them. Cools down the gums plus takes time to get out all the good stuff inside.

best.thing.to.do.is.speak.to.john.on.thursday......he's.the.trainer.with.the.knowledge.and.know.how......showing.you.how.to.
put.it,in.practice!!.....this.is.,a.very.common.problem.lots.of.owners.experience!

Hi Janis,
Yes we got them on Friday and they have been wearing them without any complaints. Pets at Home also new leads, I did not get the training lead as I was unsure how they work... Just normal ones.
Mark (other half) is totally against Fergus having a collar as he says it is not fair to put one on a dog that is nearly 5!!!!
I do not agree with him on this... In general it is me that walks them and I am finding that the collar works well especially with the pulling... 
Going to put some new/old pics on just now.

I think you are right... Will use this tactic... Both ours are chipped, but no collars though with tags.

"The Control of Dogs Order 1992 mandates that any dog in a public place must wear a collar with the name and address (including postcode) of the owner engraved or written on it, or engraved on a tag. Your telephone number is optional (but advisable).
You can be fined up to £5,000 if your dog does not wear an identification tag."
