Hi unfortunately 2 very engorged tics came off of Bubbles today and on checking her very closely I discovered a large area on her hind leg which is very badly infected. I took her to the vet who is concerned about the amount of infection (there is also a second site at the base of her tail) The vet said that TICS are out in force this year and that there is a possibility of Lyme disease.
I have a course of antibiotics for her and have to keep a close eye on her for any changes
There is a good article on this site about tics and Lyme disease ThePetCenter.com!
vet also mentioned that Advantix is best for use during the summer months as it is stronger at keeping the tics off the dogs

Hi Lynn.

Hope Bubbles gets better soon.

Is there ant hot spots for Ticks that should be avoided.

Interesting article on Lyme disease.

Had a look for Advantix. Do you a prescription for this or not.

Jack

Hi Lynne,

Sorry to hear about Bubbles, hope this heals up ok.

Dexter had his first tick a few weeks ago while I was out of the country! Typical! the wee blighters would not have dared to try and get Dex if I had been here. Rolling Eyes Luckily the tick was spotted right away and removed easily with no lasting effect.

I plan to wash him in some nice shampoo that has Eucaliptice oil in it im sure that keeps them away.
