This is the web address for a petition to re-introduce a workable dog license. I like the wording. Please check it out and if you agree, pass it on.

signed it too.
Aye Janis, the good old days eh? On your way home from the Post Office you could have nipped in to the chippy, got fish suppers for all the family and a couple of bottles of Irn Bru and still got change out a crisp pound note!
I remember those days well... (almost... )

Thanks guys.
Steve boy you're pushing your luck here. I started work in 1960. My monthly salary was £8 per month. I worked in the NHS drug pricing office and thought that was a fabulous amount of money. My £1 went a long way. I too remember that dog license fee.
A good dog cost 2-3 months wages.

The idea is to ensure that dog owners are trained to care for and control their dogs, create a data base of dogs and their owners and promote the idea of responsible dog ownership. _________________ Regards,

hm. to me sounds like another database, especially one to get lost and be miss-used by our wonderful government and if it is charged like a TV license then I would not be very happy about that, it is my right to own a dog/animal and to be honest who would actually decide that I am fit to do so or not?
I am for making people aware of how to treat dogs and get the possible advice in looking after a dog but collect information, possibly an introduction to organizations and training places within your area when you get your dog from sensible people/center/breeders. What about breeding? isn't there something in place already that records some items? like a birth certificate saying where they are from and where born? i have no idea.

It would be good if the majority of the money this licence would cost went to helping rehabilitate and rehome unwanted dogs, rather than lining the pockets of scheming politicians even further. _________________ Steve Young
