BEST MAN SPEECH

I have been asked to be my friends best man at his wedding in march, i have started looking for speech material but not sure what i should say.

im sure there must be some people on the forum that have been best men before so feel free to post your tips here:

id avoid the internet stuff to be honest - alot of these jokes have been doing the rounds for years and years.

Start off by researching the official stuff to say - ie. propose a toast to the happy couple etc

To be asked as a best man you obviously know the groom very well, so reminisce about how you met each other, what you used to do together, a cheeky/ funny story of getting into trouble together (for example) and then wrap it up about how how he's head over heels with his new wife...

Everybody expects you to insult and embarrass the groom, so don't let them down!

Remember everyone in the room wants you to do well, they are on your side and they will laugh at absolutely anything you say (within reason )

Yip, Ross nailed it there Alan and if you dont like speaking to a crowd then just pick an item in the room and talk to it ! Ironically i picked the emergency exit light above the door when Lisa and i got married but luckily didnt head for it ! You will be fine on the day, just get a couple of brandies down the hatch and give them what they want !

Me and my three best mates all made a pact to be bridesmaid to each other and give speeches - we don't hold with only the men getting a word in at weddings nonsense.

So far I've only had to do it once and although it was nervewracking here's my tips:

If you have another mutual pal see if his memory can add to yours. Then just write down some of the funny stories. Edit it back so it flows and reads just as you would say it. Then memorise it as much as you can, helps make you less nervous on the day.

Time it as well so it's no more than 5 minutes.

People don't want rubbish naff jokes, they want to hear your experiences of having him as a mate and I'm sure you'll have had a few scrapes or funny comments to make on what he's like. You can take the mick, but don't be cruel or too rude.
