Well, to be fair I am more of a dog shouter today!
Buddy in the house and in the garden is incredibly obedient. Will sit and wait at an open door before I give him permission to come through etc. etc.
Generally, he is brilliant and is the only person in my house that seems to listen to me
Open the front door and he's away like a bullet. He gets plenty of exercise but hasnt been 'done' yet (in case that makes a difference).
Out on walks he generally comes back on the 4th or 5th shout but not immediately which is the problem. He ran across a railway crossing on Sunday and missed the London - Aberdeen train by less than a minute
Can anyone give me any tips on how we can nip this in the bud? My other half contacted a 'dog whisperer' this afternoon after looking on Google and they are looking for £25 per hour (is this reasonable?).
Probably have a bit of a brass neck asking what with falling off the face of the earth over a year ago but I know the answers I'll get here is good advice (whether its what I want to hear or not).
hi colin.....i would say your best method to begin with is a long line.
as soon as you call him if he ignores you tug at him to return him to you and then reward him for returning with a treat.
as for neutering yeah i would get it done as if he gets the sniff of a female in season you will loose him to his hormones!..but for the time being i would stick with the long line til you feel comfortable that he will come back without.
the other thing possibly to use is a whistle....if he hears it....and begin in the house and garden......whistle and when he comes to find out what it is reward him....always reward him as if you don't he may think otherwise and it's not worth coming back when called!
hope this helps! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........
the perfect combination!
