Hi, i just wondered if anyone had any suggestions on how to get my dog to do her "needs" when we're out on walks? From the very start when we got her she was toilet trained in the garden and now that she's fully vaccinated she will still only do her needs in the garden! Suggestions very much appreciated!

Thanks

Hiya

We had a similar issue with Huey he's now 5 months. He's alot better now but still not going 100% on walks. Huey tends to go quite regularly after he's eaten. So we tend to time his walks now for about 30 mins to and hour after he's had something to eat and it seems to be working. He also seems to be a bit of a creature of habit and has his favorite spots when he's out

we always give him a treat after he goes, he now looks up for a treat after he does something. but of course there are still times when he goes as soon as he gets back to the garden.

I'm sure this will change when he hits adolescence and wants to mark every lamppost and tree in a 10 mile radius.

Hi

We have Tia as regular as clockwork, but what we do is take her out to empty her before her evening meal and then again in the morning, works a treat.

we had the same problem with both of our dogs. luke who is now five never went outwith the garden untill he was around a year and a half and one day he just started to do it. and skye is nearly a year and she has just stared doing it. when we asked for advice on it people said we had just trained them so well to do it in the garden so it was a mater of breaking the habit. so with skye we took he day trips lasting 8 and 9 hours and still no toilet then we took her camping for 3 days and in the whole time she only did a pee 3 times and 1 poo. which is not normal for her. that still never broke the habit she still returned to her hold habits when we got home.
but with both our dogs it just seemed like one day they both just started doing it outside i not sure if it was a maturity thing, it still bamboozles me. lol

After some routines, your dog would learn to relieve himself in areas or better yet try making a schedule of your walk after he was done with the deed.
