I have had an ongoing problem with Olivia back right leg. I have seen 4 vets and had x-rays done. Anyway we r at the stage that we have now been refer to an orthopedic specialist Which may i add just to speak to him it is costing £108 not that u can put a price on Olivia's pain. The current vet suspects cruciate problem. I have been reading re search which has been no help at all because some say it helps some say it does not help there is no definitive answer. I wanted to know if anyone has had these problems and if you had what has the outcome been. I have been quoted £2000 to £4000 for the op.

just an update. Took Olivia to specialist on Thursday he sedated her and did x rays and bloods. He said bloods were good but the cruciate problem needs surgery. He also said the left leg is going to go also. OMG. Olivia is being operated on Tuesday i am dreading it. The surgeon said the rehab is going to be long. She is getting the TPLO it is a fortune as insurance is not covering it. I have wrote to the breeder to see if they could contribute to all the medical fees. I will keep u all up to date on her progress.

Hi Amanda
I can sympathize. One of my cats was referred to a dermatologist a year and a half ago which cost a fortune. He has allergies. (to about 30 different things including mice and, believe it or not, cats!) I give him monthly immunotherapy injections now which is for life. I was lucky, his insurance covered it. I would recommend Pet Plan covered for life policies to anyone. That aside, I hope Olivia gets better soon. I am sure her breeder has to accept some responsibility for her. Hopefully you will be able to recover part of the costs from them. I am sure Tuesday will go fine. Dogs seem to recover from surgery so much better and faster than we do; both physically and psychologically.
Try not to stress too much about Tuesday. If you don't, Olivia won't either.

Sharon

Hope everything goes well on Tuesday, let us know how she goes!!! I'm sure everything will go fine and I'll have her back home before u know it. With alfies ops (second one was similar to what Olivia is getting done) it was the recovery that was the difficult bit. He felt better and didnt know not to run up stairs or jump on couch....it was keeping him quiet that was the problem. Got to say tho he jumped up and down off the couch several times, ran around when he wasnt supposed to and still healed fine they're more resilient than u think....thankfully!!

Will be thinkin about u...let us know how she gets on!!

I have had 3 phone calls from hospital for Olivia. They said she has ate 2 chicken fillets and she is good. She is still getting IV morphine and IV anti bio-tics. Just finished sterilizing the full house trying to prevent post op complications. Getting her home tomorrow fingers crossed.

That's good her appetite is back. Sounds like she's on the mend. She'll come on leaps and bounds once she gets home.
