Thanks Janis.

Keeping our options open at the moment, hopefully one way or another we'll get there.

Keep you updated

I tried a behaviorist for angus' tv issues(recommended by vet) she charged £35 for an hour and came to house. However I disagreed with some of things she said. She felt he was doin it for attention which I totally disagree with. I was supposed to ignore it and praise when he is calm I front of dog on tv. I'd still be waiting for that!!! She gave me a few useful tips ( she recommended clicker training which if u are consistent with does give good results. Think carefully before goin with whoever u choose. It can be very costly and I actually felt angus had got worse after her intervention.what worked was removing him from room every time he reacted even slightly and only ll owing him in when he's calm. She didn't agree with this as she said it was negative rather than positive training. I've let it slip lately with having breagha to train as well as looking after old dog who I think has dementia. I will start on it in earnest soon.

I've heard of the one in Airdrie you are talking about.
All I can say is she is only 3 miles from me (I'm in Carnbroe), yet I still chose to drive 2 hours each way to see Paul and that was only for a chat and take part in a training session if I wanted.
I will be getting Paul to come see us at home when work calms down a bit and I am a bit more organised.
I only know 2 people who have went to Lynn Allardyce and both dogs have since had to be rehomed, and it did end up costing them a small fortune.
Paul has helped quite a few dogs from our rescue, and from All over Britain.
Have a chat to him. I found him very easy going and helpful.

also been as good as gold since the vets.
Have to admit we've had fun with the clicker and built in
whistle and he's responding well.
Will keep u all updated

Good to hear he is behaving. I would love to say the same about my Cleo but that's not going to happen any time soon.
They are definitely sent to try us! But I suppose it is a true saying that whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Wink

Glad u finding the clicker is showing positive results. If I were u I'd keep that goin for a few weeks ( small steps) this could allow u to show him ur in charge and then u can slowly work on other issues ( which might be a lot less and easier to resolve) . If that doesn't work then I'd maybe consider behaviourist. That's what I'd do but u must obviously go with what u feel most comfortable with. make sure the treats u use are extra special so he ll really want to please in order to get them( Angus and Breagha will do anything for janis' liver cake!!)
Good luck

Great news that you are making headway with the clicker........if you do not have a clicker to hand you can simply use your voice. Clicker training is also known as marker training.....the click "marks2 the behaviour you want to encourage and gives you a larger time window to treat.......the "mark" tells the dog the treat is coming......the dog then learns that the "mark" is positive.

At that age it sounds like it could be his second fear. I haven't experienced it personally with any of my own dogs so I don't know if it actually exists but its something I've heard a lot about from others.

I'm glad you're making progress with him Very Happy Best of luck

Wee update on Murphy.

Not taken him to a behavior expert yet. Since getting the clicker and whistle he's improved loads,
we've also stopped walking him on the lead, now he's just off lead chasing his yellow ball. He seems
much happier and not so bothered with other dogs, will go have a sniff then its back to ball chasing.
The clicker training is working well and he's halfway to learning new tricks, he's also picked up his two basic
whistle commands, 4 short for come and 1 long for sit.
I got him a pet corrector hisser spray for his barking, after about 6 uses he's getting the hint that when we say quiet
stops barking and gets a treat.
Overall a much happier house all round.

He's still a bit territorial with some people but only a few. So here's hoping the good progress continues. Very Happy

Brilliant news. Have u had any success stopping him attacking tv? If so how? Angus ti attacking it so much so he knocked tv over. Luckily it fell backwards and was caught
Against the wall. Think I'll have to try the clicker training again with Angus. Glad my advice worked for you( need to take my advice inboard
Myself!!)

Hi Jean, we still get a wee half hearted bark at the tv when he hears animals but after
using the pet corrector spray he's got the hint to stop when we say quiet, I keep the spray
handy just incase.
Really happy with his progress and his behaviour at the mo Very Happy

Hi,

Got the pet corrector from Pets at Home, it basically emits a loud hissing sound,
I was scepticle but when Murphy barks or does something hes not meant to, 1 spray
of it and his head whips round to me and he stops, great bit of kit.
used it with the command quiet for barking and no for everything else and he's got the jist of it,
only used it about 8 times in total.

So far so good. The tv charging although not stopped completely is definitely less and I've managed to sit watching prigs with animals in without havin sore hand from pullin back on lead or sore ears from unbearable barking. Fingers crossed this continues
