dog tongues definetly dont have antiseptic qualities. Their mouths are very dirty, can you imagine eating dog food all day, licking your bum and other dogs, licking at urine etc etc. dogs shouldnt be encouraged to lick at wounds, they can create something known as a lick granuloma, a painful condition which takes months to heal and go away, and often they have it for a long time, being very inflamed and sore. _________________ your cat will never annoy by barking at 3am, he wont attack the postman or eat the curtains, although he may climb them to see how the room looks from the ceiling... |

Dont care about the infection or germs - no way am I stopping the kisses I get from my boys, If I was to wait for lindsay I would be kissless for days on end
My last GSB used to lick my eyes open in the morning all summer. I suffered from really bad hayfever and no matter how much medication I took my eyes were always stuck together in the morning, If I tried to open them I would pull my eyelashes out, so I used to let zara lick away - when she passed on I had to pay a lot more for cotton balls to wash them she used to really soothe my eyes.
When lindsay had his really bad burn this year, bob would just not leave him alone, and on one occasion even stole the bandage off one of his fingers, just whipped it off in passing, quick as a flash- he was trying to pull lindsays bandage off and get his tongue down inside it - it was hillarious |

Um I seem to be the only one who's not keen on kisses. I always think about where else his tongue has been I'm happy to let dogs chew my fingers or lick my hand etc but please not my face. _________________ Janice and Dale |

My idea is to keep kisses to a minimum. Robert and Mishka have different idea on that hence Mishka's nickname of' Lizard lips' |

I don't really mind Leon giving me a wee lick on the chin or cheek, but again he is a right wee so-and-so for the frenchies - which I could live without!
At first steven was a bit grossed out by it as he had never had a dog before = but now he doesn't really bother. Leon always wants to lick steven when he comes back from work - probably cos he is in stinky work clothes!
I don't think it really does any harm tho - a few germs never hurt anyone- in fact, quite the opposite...?
When I was younger we always had dogs and I was totally healthy, but strangely, when the last dog died I started to get allergic reactions to all sorts of things including food and chemicals. I sometimes wonder if this was to do with being "too clean" or a lack of germs, because I was told that my symptoms were due to my body going into overdrive and attacking things that it shouldn't - perhaps for lack of anything better to attack?!
I don't know, and I am not saying I am right, but it is just a wee theory I have... also, the allergies have really calmed down now and interestingly I do have a dog again, but for a while it was so bad that i had to carry an epipen in case of anaphylaxis.
So long story short - it is down to the individual, but it doesn't bother me... I'd be more worried about drinking juice straight from a can than worrying where or what my dog had been licking!!!

Janice, I'm with you. My dogs do not kiss. I keep them away from kids' mouths. They do have revolting habits. Just read some of the postings re eating poo of various kinds. As for french kisses -

I get a lick on the chin when I bend over to give him a cuddle, but he's not allowed to jump up and do it.
I do think it's a bit gross, so no tongues. |

I don't mind my own dogs giving me a kiss on the cheek or chin - but i'm not so keen on other peoples dogs doing it to me!
It's like picking up your dogs' poo.....you don't mind picking up your own dogs', but it's not so good picking up other peoples dogs poo! I'm sure you all know what I mean! |

I like kisses as well. I´m a bit more carefull with the borders in the kennels (you never know where they from...) but my Sony can kiss me as often as she likes! _________________ "It is possible to live without a dog, but it is not worth it."

Molly likes kisses, oh yes......however, she tends to try and slip her tongue in your mouth! So you have to be careful! Roxy prefers to give you a gentle like on the hand or arm, the wee soul. |
