Our pal has a vizsla and he's gorgeous. The way they move is something of beauty - so graceful.

Eleanor,

I agree with you - I would never buy 2 (or more) littermates. As you say, they will be so in tune with each other that they probably won't want to bother all that much with their owner(s) and will most probably be much harder to train, and a lot of one-to-one time will have to be taken with both dogs in order two toilet train and teach them basic obedience.

If I wanted to buy two from the same breeder/parentage, I would buy the second from another litter.

I had one woman, who had 2 Springer Spaniels, once tell me that she bought the second dog in order for them to "train each other". Rolling Eyes I advised her that if one dog is fully toilet trained and has mastered basic obedience, a puppy can look to this dog for guidance in growing up. However, obviously, this does not always happen but it is possible.

My sister just bought 2 springer puppies and I told her she was mad, especially given she has 2 older dogs, 2 cats and 4 kids between her and her other half.

But there were only 2 left from a litter of 9 and she couldn't resist taking them both.

She's still mad.

I don't recommend buying two puppies from the same litter or even two puppies unless you have plenty of time on your hands. If you have two puppies you have to spend time with them individually, more time than they spend with each other............

That's true Eleanor, but well worth it, I think, as long as you are willing to put the work in.

I agree Eleanor.......two from the same liter is a worst case scenario, but people look and think .....oh they are brothers ( sisters or brother and sister) and see this from a human perspective........with dogs siblings in the same house is a recipe for disaster and should be avoided at all costs.

Yes too right John if I had kept Ruby as well as Lizzy I would have had a war on my hands and Dora would have been very depressed (seriously) when they get togther it is madness they run riot play fight then fight for real and it's hard work. On a walk they are a nightmare as they just want to play even on the lead and get me all tangled up and dora just looks up at me in sheer desperation. I'm so glad we get the opportunity to see Ruby and take her out and even look after sometimes but to have kept them bith would have been a disater and I'm glad Alan refused to have them both as he would have left me with them all if I had insisted and I would have been one sorry lady. Two from the same litter is lots of work as their instinct is to get one over the other all the time especially as pups where they are learing through play then as they get older it's for real (and they fight)as they want to be top dog it takes lots of time and space.
