Well Star and Jake have just seen their first fireworks display. My next door neighbor had just had a mini display and I sat out in the garden with Star, Libby and Jake! Libby freaked out and ran back in the house but Star and Jake thought it was amazing! They both stayed really clam. I could see it at first they were trying to gage my reaction both of them looking at my face at every bang. I didn't even break my gaze to look at them just kept looking up. After about 5/6 bangs they both just sat and looked up I was so chuffed!

The display is still going on and Star and Jake are sleeping but Libby is so tense! I am just ignoring her but its really hard. Sad

Well done to Jake and Star! And you Fiona, for not pandering to them! Very Happy

Don't fuss over Libby now, Fiona. Be strong.

Sounds as if you're doing well. Maybe if Star and Jake don't mind fireworks they'll eventually convince Libby. Confused

That's a good point, Janice. She might do, although I doubt it.

Yeah she is in a bit of a state, I am sticking to my guns and not pandering to her. Just glad Stephen isn't here he is terrible at trying to comfort her!

Good to hear at least the young ones are learning its not bad. Not so sure about the learing from them from Libbys point of view, I have 2 that are terrified and 2 that are not you think the calm ones would rub off onto the 2 panic-ers, its Moya and Misty that hate them

Sounds really good Fiona! Smile
Funny thing is, my little frightened Sonydoggy, who is running away from the littlest growl, is absolutely not impressed by fireworks. I actually think she likes it, cos she is looking like "Oh look, all the coloured sparkling lights!"
Well at least something, we don´t have to worry about Confused

There were tons of fireworks going off last night, but fortunately Otto didn't bat an eyelid. didn't take him outside, but it was noisy enough - we got a fright, he didn't.

If it can't be eaten, chewed or sniffed, he's not interested Laughing

Fiona,

you were right not to react...the dogs will look at you as they decide how to react...the earlier you can show them there is nothing to worry about the better..........it is difficult I know.

I had both Roxy and Molly out in the garden tonight for about half an hour. There were, and still are, fireworks galore going off.

Roxy sat beside me while Molly played with a squeeky ball and had the odd bark and the really loud ones, like the bangers. Rolling Eyes Not barking because she was scared, her tail was totally erect, she just wanted a bark at them as they were very noisy, then she went back to he ball again and only came to me when she seen I had treats! Rolling Eyes

Roxy didn't take treats at first, then after around ten minutes she started taking treats. Then she lay down calmly beside me just watching the sky, which is a big step as she had a big sigh. Very Happy The desensitisation seems to be working with Roxy, thankfully. Smile

They're now both curled up beside me with a shawl around them both. Rolling Eyes Smile
