I have tried the DAP Suzanne. We used the plug in for Star's mum as she was quiet aggressive towards strangers in the house and could be very agitated at times. To be honest with her it didn't really work but I have heard loads of folk say what great results they had with it.
At least if you get it you can say you have tried it!? _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

I think DAP has got to be worth a try Suzanne. You have nothing to lose. |

Suzanne......you are certainly not having an easy time with her.
I've never tried DAP, from my own experience I would try to act as normally as possible...dogs pick up on our insecurities and fell they have to do the 'defending' if their instinct tells them to. _________________ John Thomson

Poor Katie, hope she's better soon.
Don't know if you seen the episode of "It's me or the dog" that Bruce Forsyth's daughter was in? As you probably know, both her dogs were stolen, and were eventually returned. Due to the way she behaved around them since they got stolen, the dogs were experiencing behavioural issues.
As Victoria explained, the best way to deal with the situation is to carry on as normal as if nothing has happened, this should reassure the dogs that everything is still ok. By fussing over them and letting them get away with things (not that you are doing that with your dogs, i'm just telling the story) reinforced unwanted behaviour from the dogs such as barking whenever stranger and also people the dogs knew came in to the house. She let them do it by praising them profusely making them gradually worse.
Victoria made a loud, sharp noise everytime the dogs barked and acted frantically when people came in to the house and reinforced that she was the boss. When they stopped barking they were praised and given a treat. Eventually, the dogs realised than when peole come in to the house that it's a good thing and they'll get treats and praise for not barking frantically.
Obviously this all takes time, repetition and patience, as you probably know, but the results were worth it in the end.

I haven't ever used D.A.P. on my dogs, but I would say it's got to be worth a try. I know of people who use it with success, and also people who have not had success with it. It's just one of these things, what works for one dog may not work for another. Good luck. |
