Scrambled eggs works well to bind them up but only if you are sure it is nothing more serious than a virus. Make sure you are getting the fluids in the dogs an a sachet or two o that electrolade diarrhea treatment will help replace the salts an the minerals lost, just dilute it twice. If your dogs are showing no improvement after 72 hours then a trip to the vet might be needed. Non o them are gonna starve to death i am sure, but hydration is key to recovery.
Make sure you push the fluids.

or dioralyte! I wholeheartedly agree that plenty fluids is the key. As Sam said THEY WILL NOT STARVE! A dog can go a long time without food. Plenty fluids will flush the virus out. |

i spoke to a lady at the glen today she has a Labrador and he has been bad too, she thought it was the water as he always drinks it...whatever it is, it is definitely doing the rounds. _________________ Happiness is being loved by 2 Great Danes |

as the vet said to Fiona, it appears to the nasty human strain has moved onto dogs ........ think it was bound to happen. When you think how close we all get to our dogs they are bound to pick some things up.
Fortunately we're still all clear here. I hope it stays that way. But if I am going walking I will only walk my dogs in the company of others who are well. It simply does not make any sense to mix with ill dogs. I don't want to tempt fate.
The poor pooches that are under the weather should be kept away from the others, it would be irresponsible to pass the virus on.
Not sure if it is possible for dogs to be reinfected with this virus? For example Fiona's 3 ...... Jake now has this, very badly too , Star had it before but is now perfectly healthy again. It appears in his case anyway, that they are immune to it after having it? Not sure, but Fiona's other two haven't taken it again despite living with poor wee Jakey. |

I agree Marcella. Anyone who's dogs are showing even the slightest possibility of still showing symptoms of the illness should keep their dogs away from healthy dogs. As Marcella says it doesn't seem to have re infected Libby and Star which is a god send. Jake is a bit better today, still got the runs but has stopped being sick and is eating loads now. I think we can all agree that if our dogs were healthy we would do anything to keep it that way. The older dogs seem to shake it off in a few days but as we have seen with Jake, Sky and Lady the pups really get hit hard. _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

My two are nearly back to normal mostly solid poo's....Thank goodness.
I was lucky because my two still had an appetite.
My step mum has had dogs for years, she suggested brown bread and cornflour with a bit of water, said it works better than kaolin and morphine not sure if it' true. _________________ Happiness is being loved by 2 Great Danes |

dunno if it is Emma, but still got to be worth a try!!!!! Anything is worth a try when they are so bad.
Hopefully your two will be well again soon, once the binding agent the vet gave you is finished then you'll know for sure! Fingers crossed. |

Emma, brown bread with the cornflour and water all mixed together? That and nothing else?
I can just imagine me trying to feed that to my two I'd get the 'where's my tripe?' look! |

That's what i thought, my dogs do like bread though I suppose you could add something else.
My step mum swears by it. She has had rough collies all her life..
I might give it go, they might just look at me like I've gone mad _________________ Happiness is being loved by 2 Great Danes |

Jake just done his first solid poo in about two weeks (lovely I know! ) He is almost back to his mischievous self, he is eating loads and running around the house and not just lying around feeling sorry for himself.
Thank god! It was a loooooong two weeks I can tell you! If he doesn't relapse by Sunday he can come to training and back on walks. _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |

Think the only one who isn't happy Jake is feeling better is my cat, who for the first time in two weeks was getting chased round my dinning table _________________ Dogs are like Chocolate, you just can't have one! |
