It's an age old problem with a lot of people, but we just can't seem to stop it. Do what we're supposed to do, ie turn our back on him and ignore him, only greet him when he's calm....but it's not stopping.
We've picked up on a couple of "pack" issues that could be improved - as I think with me its dominance, but he does it to everyone the minute they talk to him.
With visitors, we physically have to stop him doing it, and then he calms down, but then when they clap him, he jumps up, even if they're sitting down. He does this to us and is pushed off. It can scare people. I don't want him doing it at all.
Any tactics to manage it "in situ" other than putting him in another room. |

I have tried ALL of that - kneeing him, ignoring him...nothing seems to have an effect.
You can see him do it, ie prepare to jump the minute anyone speaks to him - even after the initial excitement has gone. Maybe we're not ignoring him for long enough. Perhaps a week might do it... |

I'm having a similar problem with Millie, she won't jump on anyone outside even if she knows them, but if anyone comes in the house it takes her about an hour or so to calm down its ridiculous it doesnt matter if you ignore her she will stop jumping but as soon as you turn round she starts again!!! _________________ When a dog wags her tail and barks at the same time, how do you know which end to believe? |

He's the same - totally ignores people, unless they speak to him then he wants to jump on them.
Saw John's sheet yesterday and I do kneel down to cuddle him too much and Ian fights with him, so we will do less of that.
He's so good with most things, but jumping up and getting him to heel are issues and I think a lack of consistency is the key.
Just wanted to know what to do with him when someone walks in the door. |

Yeah me to its a pain, I wish she was the same indoors as she is outside, she sniffs peoples feet if even that and walks off!! _________________ When a dog wags her tail and barks at the same time, how do you know which end to believe? |

I have noticed a difference in his behaviour ie he's taken to ripping up the mail and stealing my slippers. I think he's just pushing the boundaries - as if one oh I swore male teenager wasn't enough.
But even when we are consistent he still oh I swore jumps....the breeder says it's a common GSP thing - cant even knee him in the knackers any more! |

I read back a few threads, and there is good advice on teenage tearaways....ignore the bad, encourage the good. |

A prong may help with this Suzanne a good sharp correction when he does it and he'll soon get the message I am having problems with lizzy jumping at the TV not good when it's a big flat screen that could possibly fall on her if she jumps hard enough and believe me she does. So I've had the long line and prong on and every time she goes to do it I correct her, it worked with Dora but the key is doing for a few nights consistanly...I'll get there. |

He really goes for it when I come in from work - I think because I feed him and he's just ordering me to feed him.
Today I has some treats in my pocket, stood there with my arms crossed and ignored him til he was listening, then made him sit and do a few downs and stays and calmed him right down. And he was very good after that. |

This is my main problem with Tikka! I know shes young and they need to start somewhere, but as she is young i,m convinced she thinks shes tiny, like in the film shallow hal? Is that the correct name? Well Tikka looks in the mirror and i,m sure she sees a wee Holly or suchlike!? I think it is a dominance thing as she does not do it to me as often as say Kylie, Jay my mum, sister etc! Problem is she DOES do it when were out, but only if anyone greets her!? And problem with all you dog lovers, yous love her to do it, and she doesn't know the difference! Lol ? _________________ Barry, Kylie & Jay with precious Rotti Tikka |

She is lovely though - and so well behaved. |

With a push, and a stretch she more or less can! Certainly can do with Kylie, and just looks over Jay boy!
So well behaved? Alot of people have now said that, beginning to think I,ve just been picking wee faults, but then I suppose everyone would like there dog to behave that bit better? _________________ Barry, Kylie & Jay with precious Rotti Tikka |

She is very good, very calm. Otto could do all the training stuff at that age but wasnt as switched on as she is. Still isn't. Given half a chance he'd just run around and play with labs! |
