Hi Janis,
The cockapoo is my favourite too.
I love the dapper outfits as well.
Trying to persuade Robert that it could be a possible addition to the family of maddies here. Working on that one!!!! |

I came across quite a few African-sounding names when we were looking for ideas for the pup eventually known as Shadow. Swahili words have quite a good tone to them, the only problem is most of the best ones were stolen by Disney for the Lion King and so they're probably quite common now! [I couldn't get over the fact that when we used to take Ariel to the vet there were four cats in Cumbernauld all aged 13/14 all called Ariel after "The Little Mermaid!] However, I digress!
I thought the name "Rafiya" was quite nice, it comes from "Rafiki" and just means "friend". It's been adopted as a girls name in some parts of America but I don't know how well it would suit a dog! My original thought was just to find a word meaning "dog" but I think "Chiboa" takes on some unfortunate connotations in the Glasgow area because it's too similar to "Chib"!
However, there are still one or two nice ones out there. If the dog happened to be creamy coloured then there is "Mtindi" (literally "cream colour") which could also be shortened down to "Tindi" which is my favourite one because I thought it was quite cute and wouldn't sound quite so awful as "Rafiya!" if you were yelling it out into the garden at night! |
