Tom is usually fine off lead. Somethings he thinks its a game when he is called back. The problem that i have is when he meets other dog off lead and he wants to play.I'm Finding it hard to get him back. He is the kind of dog that need off the lead as he has so much energy am just worried as lots of owners don't like dogs running up and playing with there dogs !!! |

Alison, why don't you bring him along to a group walk .............. several dogs off lead all dogs running around getting rid of their energy and a group of folk that know your dog!
He'd love it. |

This is exactly my worry with Rufus!
If he is out and sees another dog, there is no stopping him making a beeline for it.
Def come on a group walk..at the end of yesterdays, Rufus was actually starting to leave dogs and come to me when I shouted him, lol! |

Long line!! Let him run around with it trailing behind him and if he doesn't respond to the recall command, reel him in and reward him.
We rarely need it now as he knows the Wait command. If we see the dog first, he will stop. You can tell he's thinking about going, but we just put him on the lead till the temptation has passed.
Sometimes though, the other dog is just having too much fun and he can't resist......if the owner is ok he gets to play for a while. Another trick is to run in the opposite direction in a mad fashion - he'd rather chase me apparently. |

I will try get along to group walks! Sometimes tom thinks dogs are sheep tho! The next time there is a small group i will come along as he hasn't met many dogs so would be great! I just seem to get all worked up when i cant get him and that makes it so much worse!! There is a great place i take him in BANTON its the Andrew Dow woods and its great for letting him off. Its a bit muddy but so much fun for him! |

Yeah, been there and done that. Thankfully mine seem to always come back when called (she says touching wood!!!!!!!) But as Suzanne mentioned a long line is the answer. John always recommends this until your dog has the hang of coming back when called.
Ask on sunday and John can show you exactly how to work with a long line. |
