We are thinking of changing Jack on to raw feeding. What should we start with and how much? Don't want him to be hungry. |

There are hundreds of threads on this... probably why no one got back so soon. If you do a search on the forum then you'll find them
I think its about 3% of their ideal weight , and you can start with whatever you want to... be that minced meat, chicken, tripe etc. I just know what to feed now so I dont measure anymore!
We started with some Tesco value mince to test the water if you like, but no need to... dont know any dog who doesnt like raw!!!
We order from Landywoods, and get a mixture minced meat, tripe and chicken. Hope that helps!! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Thanks Ashley. I have gone through all the threads and that's why we are being convinced that raw is best. Just a bit apprehensive about taking the leap into the unknown! Will try a few things and see how it goes. |

Well definitely try a wee bit of tesco value mince first. I wasnt sure about moving to raw at first. But Holly loves it! And we only got Murphy last week but have already switched him to it as well.
Honestly, best decision I ever made! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Allison,
I can understand you are worried..........I did the same, how much, what etc.
Bottom line is that raw is 100% better than any commercial food..........if the dog looks a little thin feed extra............a little fat then feed less.
Buy a tray of cheap mince and put it down to jack at the same time as his normal food........he will tell you what he prefers.
I have done a huge amount of research on this and firmly believe that raw is the best possible diet for dogs. I buy from www.landywoods.co.uk have a look at the prices page. They deliver every 6 weeks and I pick up the order so you can collect in Cumberland.
My 35KG GSD's get approx 2lbs of food a day each.......sometimes mince, sometimes meat chunks ( tripe, heart, liver, kidney, chicken backs etc) sometimes rib bones. _________________ John Thomson

Thanks John. We are going to start him off tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes. That has given us a rough idea of how much to give him. I was reading about bloat last night and it said that dogs fed on commercial foods are more at risk that those who are fed raw. I also read that if fat/oils are in the first four ingredients in dried food steer clear. I checked some that we have used and it was the second. |

Jack has just had his first raw meal. It lasted all of thirty seconds! No going back now. |

He sure did. I looked at the price list via the link John sent. They are really good. Can I order myself or do I wait until a club order is going in? This may be a little while as I saw that one has recently been done. |

Allison the Landywoods order comes up every 6 weeks. If you let John know what you want for the next delivery he will get it with everyone elses order. In the meantime you can try AMP which again is ordered through us but we pick that up every friday. It's not as cheap as Landys but still cheaper than Tesco!!!!
www.prizechoice.co.uk is the link for AMP |

If I ever get the next house I'm looking for I'll have space for the bigger fridge freezer which is at present languishing in a storage place and then I'm determined that Cuthbert will try RAW food.
I can't somehow see him turning his nose up at it! _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |
