I believe the best test for fleas is to use a fine tooth comb and shake it over a piece of damp white paper......the fleas droppings will turn red when wet and show up against the white of the paper.
Never seen a flea though! _________________ John Thomson

We could plainly see them, there were quite a few crawling over the pink bit of her tummy and under her armpits. She doesnt seem to have any now after her shampoo but she's still scratching her little irritated westie skin Going to the vets tonight yet again since, as I've told John, shes been having a few health problems and today she had quite alot of blood in her poop I'm so worried about my little dog. _________________

The shampoo hopefully will have worked..but her skin will still feel ittitated. The blood is a worry...if it is fresh it could simply be a blood vessel.
Keep a close eye on her and if you are in any doubt take her to the vet.....even if just to put your mind at rest.
Fingers crossed that she starts to perk up quickly _________________ John Thomson

Hi Anna
Sorry to hear about tilly, we tend to use spot on for Nevis and it has worked so far seems to keep the wee blighters at bay, the blood in her toilet, Nevis had a similar thing when he was about fifteen weeks we took him to the vet and she said i might be a digestion related symptom so she recommended Hills Science Plan Tinned Dog Food (its some sort of medicated formula available from the vet) took that and only that for about four days and havent had a problem since, hopefully its only something like that and hope she gets better soon.

She hasn't been herself for weeks now and hardly eats. Poor wee pup and she was already covered for flea stuff with psot on. Vet at 5.40 then I need to go to work and leave my pup with my parents.
Maybe she doesnt like JWB, maybe she prefers pedigree rubbish, is that possible? _________________

Good luck at the vet's. It is possible she prefers pedigree rubbish to JWB just as I'm sure when you were wee your mum would tell you not to eat sweets as it would rot your teeth and put you off your meals. Bet it didn't stop you though! Me neither You'll probably have a better idea later after being at the vet but don't change anything without discussing with vet first though. Good luck. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

the blood in the poo could just be down to stress of her not knowing why she is so itchy. we get some dogs who come into kennels and are stressed for the first two days and have a wee but of blood in the poo but it clears up quick.
how often is she bathed, i know she is a white dog so you see the dirt quicker.
her continued itching could also be just a reaction to the flee chemical stuff if she has sensitive skin to begin with. so i wouldn't worry to much _________________ microchiping and grooming www.chipnclip.co.uk

The vet thinks she has colitis she is going tomorrow to be sedated and get her bloods done and a rectal exam. I could tell she really wasn't well today coz usually she whines when the vet takes her temperature and she didnt make a sound this time that's along with all the other stuff of course!
She seems to have perked up a bit, she is out of her bed and has joined us in the living room and she ate her scrambled egg that we gave her for her dinner _________________
