Off to the vet soon. Cuthbert has been sick all night. This morning he is very lethargic and starting to tremble at times. Hopefully it's just a passing virus but this is so unlike him. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

Looks like he's got gastritis and his temperature is up a bit. He got an antibiotic injection with tablets also for a week, an anti emetic to stop the sickness, and some rehydration sachets to add to his water (don't fancy my chances of getting him to drink that but we'll see.). His diet is to be ultra bland from tomorrow for the weekend, but fast him today. Pasta. scrambled egg, that type of thing tomorrow.
He's still quiet but a bit brighter.
Now to wait for him to start drinking etc.
That being the case with his food the packet of turkey mince which is defrosted he will not now be getting and unless anybody out there wants it, it will have to be binned. If anyone does want it they are more than welcome to it and phone me. My mobile no. is under the sticky in the walks section. _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |

At least now you have all the ingredients to allow him to recover. He'll hopefully realise the rehydration salts are what he requires and drink the water. If not a small syringe can help ( have done that with children and dogs, always easier with dogs to children) |

Completely agree with you Ann - if he won't drink voluntarily then a syringe should be used - I have 2 in my emergency treatment box.....just in case. Even if mine just have what I would term a minor upset tummy I use the syringe if they don't voluntarily drink for themselves _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

I found some syringes I forgot I had, and after a fair bit of a tussle, I managed to get about 20mls of the water and salts in. He isn't especially lethargic , just not interested in eating or drinking yet. His manner when he is awake is brighter and he did have the energy to disagree with me over the syringe so I guess I just give him time and some more liquid before the end of the evening. I do wish though that he would have more liquid but some is better than none.
Oh and Ross the syringes are NOT titanium lined. Not a bad idea though! _________________ Happiness is watching my dog chase leaves dancing in the breeze. |
