Hi everyone
This is my first time on this site and i am hoping for some advice!
I have a lovely 9 month choc Labrador and i am staring to get a bit worried. When we first got him he was a bit shy but eventually this improved and he socialised well with people and dogs. He goes out with a dog walker twice a week and when we go on holiday he stays with a lovely lady who keeps dogs in her home. He now gets on well with other animals however he has started to bark everytime someone comes to our front door. Which is fine however he wont stop when they come in for a while despite me giving a strong no. In the house when he starts to make a few grumbles i say 'no' and this has started to work with him going off to his crate for a sulk. Now however he is picking and choosing he is doing it too in the park. Today for example we where nearly finished our walk and he came across a group of people and started to bark constantly at them and i could see they where put off and worried as they had small children.
can anyone advise how best to deal with this. sorry for going on a bit. also are members generally strict with exercise as some sites i have been on suggest 5 minutes for every month.
sorry for going on a bit!!!! |

hi lissanne and welcome!
my daughter and i have 3 cockapoos and the eldest two can be barkers also!
when it happens rather than tell them off and should "no" to them we try to re direct them..............distracting their attention to something else whether it me a treat or toy you have in your hand...............either that or should on him heading in the opposite direction with a big smile and make him think he is missing out on fun with you!
we also use a whistle which works with ours too!
pop up a picture of him if you can!............we'd love to see him! _________________ Cockapoo's...a little of this, a little of that..........
the perfect combination!

Thanks for the advice janis. I am trying to work out how to get a photo of him up. with the whistle do you use that when you are trying to distract him? |

Hi Lisaanne, welcome to the forum. I had this problem with my young Doberman and I tried all sorts of things but also found that distraction with toys/treats worked best. I also marked and treated him if he passed people without showing any signs of aggression. _________________ Grace & Dexter |

hiya,
if you go back into your photobucket account, select the photo you want to use and then I think its edit then resize. when you do that, resize it to 160x110 or something like that...

I resized it..........avatars need to be tiny..
in photobucket go to edit, resize then select tiny and that will size an avatar correctly.........only easy when you know how
