Hello
I've just joined and will hopefully be coming to my first puppy class tomorrow with alfie, my staffie pup. Warning in advance, he loves everyone and everything to the extent that he can be a little annoying so hopefully the classes will help me teach him some manners. He has a deformed leg that he was born with which is becoming good bit shorter than the rest but manages ok so far so hopefully we'll get on ok at classes. Hopefully see some of you there,
lesley and alfie |

Hey there Lesley and Alfie - another Staffie - woooooo-hooooooo!!!!
You'll not see me in class as I'm not in the area but as you can see from my Avatar I have Staffies and ADORE every last one of them. Alfie sounds perfectly normal to me - they retain that enthusiasm their whole lives and those of us who love the breed love that about them! He'll settle a bit in time - all it takes is time, loving training, consistency and patience - you're doing a BRILLIANT thing socialising him early on with a great bunch of people & dogs so I look forward to hearing all about his progress.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE post piccies of him VERY soon!!!!!!! _________________ Staffies are my life! Visit us at www.staffies.co.uk |

I think he was just putting on a show on Sunday cos he was good as gold but he spent this afternoon jumpin up biting my leg. I can't ignore him 4 doing it cos I was ignoring him at the time. He just goes mad at times!! Needs to stop soon cos the remaining 95% of the time he's the best pup. He only seems to do it when he's tired or overstimulated. Today I think he was just bored and wantin my attention! Ugh....puppies |

A FIRM "NO" will do the trick - you can't risk pushing him down too forcefully as his bones are still developing and are easily broken so I would suggest use the flat of your hand and push gently down as you say "NO". - even if you just mimick a down gesture and make no physical contact it WILL work with consistency.
Is he your first Staffie? If so then.....get used to this - they're incredible attention seekers and will try anything to get it even mischevious behaviour - you just have to let him know what IS an acceptable way of getting your attention - my Ella now puts on her seal puppy face - you know the one, ears back, eyes pleading and she sits up and begs whenever she wants attention because she KNOWS jumping up and/or biting is absolutely NOT allowed whereas the seal begging pose is GUARANTEED to make me melt and give her fuss - she's very very demanding....sounds like you have one just like her _________________ Staffies are my life! Thanks. Yeah he's my first staff. I'll just keep working at it. 2day he's been awful but think it's cos he's on no exercise cos his leg is bothering him so he's bit wild 2day. He loves attention so hates being ignored. Will just take time. I just want him to be perfect, don't want to lose his cute cheeky nature just make sure he knows the boundaries. I'm currently Reading cesars new how to raise the perfect dog book lookin for some tips. Thanks 4 ur help! |
