Hi folks,
Just to let you know, Lucy was spayed a couple of weeks ago, but has had ongoing problems.
First some of her stitches loosened, though held within her body, and she has now developed lumps at the suture site.
The vet said she either has an infection or has taken a reaction to the internal sutures. She suspects it is the latter and if so, she will
have to be opened up again and all internal sutures redone with new stuff. In the meantime, she is on antibiotics and is to see the vet again on Friday when a decision will be made.
To be honest, the thought of Lucy with a buster collar on for another couple of weeks fills me with despair (as it probably does her!) . Those who know her will know how hyper she is, and I'm running out of ideas to keep her reasonably calm but occupied. Not to mention my poor legs which are quite bruised as she keeps bumping into me with that dammed collar!
Any suggestions gratefully received.

margaret i am sorry to hear lucy has had problems with her spaying.....i have been very lucky to have all my three go without any hiccups......however like lucy they too didn't like the buster collar,....what we did was get one of my youngest son's then aged 3 or so old vests and popped that on and fastened it round with a crepe bandage and a couple of sticking plaster to stop them from getting at the stitches to lick or nibble.

it also gave them more freedom....with the size of lucy i would certainly try something like a baby's all in one vest possibly with poppers.

hope she gets better soon.

U could try putting a t-shirt on her and tying it up so it covers the wound to stop the licking. Prob still use collar when ur not there but can work quite well and save ur legs! Poor Lucy!

Alfie had wound reaction after his castration 3 wks ago cos he had an abdominal testicle so had a wound in his tummy too, went into quite a firm lump. It's only just settling now but not as bad as what lucy's sounds. Hope she's ok!

thats a shame things havent gone too well with Lucy getting spayed. Millie needs done soon and like you I dread the buster collar.

Janis - great idea about the baby vests, I will be getting a supply for when Millie gets done!

Thanks for the tips etc.
I immediately thought the baby vest was a great idea, however no babies in family!
I've nipped out to buy a smaller collar as the one the vet supplied was much too big, so as this one is barely sticking out
beyond her nose, I'm hoping it will help.

Aww poor Lucy we hope she gets better soon, Maxxy's got three more months before he gets the snip and I'll definitely be using a baby grow, fantastic idea.

I loved the collar, it was the only thing that slowed ours down long enough for them to heal!

It's different for boys, but our older one was allergic to the sutures so to be on the safe side they didn't use them with our second and he recovered immediately.
