|
|
Dodge has not tried to poo all day.
We have had him out 3 times today. walking is fine, he just cant make it up into the car.
He usually has a poo in the morning and again at lunchtime.
He has not attempted to go all day and now has 3 meals compacting in his tummy. Is this ok.
I have never had a dog who has gone this long
I am more worried about this than his mobility. Is it too soon to panic.
I am also worrying incase he has something wrong inside his tummy and not a groin strain |

I think if you are worried you should take him to the vet, it's probably just a strain but it will ease the worry. |

He has been eating normally.
He does not eat veg unless it is well hidden in with his meat.
He has had 3 small bowls of milk |

Poor Dodge. Think he might need some Metacam to ease the pain and let him poo. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

good idea Enid if thats what is needed then the vet will prescribe it K so don't worry he will be ok overnight and then get him to the vets tomorrow, possibly his groin strain is sore and he is scared to poo |

Kirsty, if you're worried about his guts you could give him a tblsp of Asilone. It is available from chemists and is used for humans too. All Great Dane owners keep supply as it counteracts the onset of bloat. It soothes the gut.
But I tend to agree he may just not want to poo if it is sore because he has strained himself. _________________ Regards,

I just put a large spoonful down his throat. You could put it in his milk if it is a small amount. _________________ Regards,

I think your lad received a jolt in the lower spine or the pelvic area while in play an that is why he is to sore to bare down an strain to pass a motion or get in the car.
He can go a good few days afor you need worry about having his bowels open but after 5 i would be looking at some laxatives to soften them.
If by day 5 he is not showing signs o recovery or he worsen afor then then i say he need some anti inflammatory , a jab o steriods an a trip to the vets.
he is not in any danger from his injuries, but his bowels do need to be emptied so his dis comfort will need relieving to allow this. I suggest 'syrup o figs'... 'oily fish' ..fruit... an anything else that is safe an will soften his motions .
.
