Dog training classes

Quick question for everyone........what difference ( if any ) has dog training classes and our group walks made to your dog(s) or even you!

Is there anything I could be doing better in class or on the walks? ( huge can of worms )

Walks are fab, love that I dont have to walk on my own all the time and get the chance to speak to other doggy folk. Has changed my social life and the dogs of course for the better

I have seen a difference in the way I handle the dogs as a result of the classes, walks and forum. I use the stuff we do in the class on my walks and the group walks have made Lizzy the dog she is and Dora is coming along nicely. I would never have heard of the prong and thus never got one, which would have been a shame as it has changed Dora for the better if she has it on attached to a lead or not she is much more responsive to me and my command so it has allowed me to dominate her in a way I don't think I would ever have achieved without it. Not only have the dogs benefited but I am a much more confident and competent handler I have still got lots to learn but am on the way, and I have made lots of friends with like minded folks who know how to let their hair down and have a laugh. Long may it continue

I love the classes and walks. I find the support network the club gives me invaluable. Star would be a different dog if it weren't for his training. I can already see the walks having a positive impact on Jake. The socialisation with other dogs is priceless John and you do a great job at the club. I would have never considered or even heard of feeding dogs raw if it weren't for the club.

One thing I would say is that I only seem to know a handful of committee members and only recongnise others on a Tuesday through the red tops you guys were. And before the new hall I only knew John, Bob, Allan and Shirley. Obviously not every committee member can come to every walk or post advice to thread but it would be nice to hear a bit more from others. That way we would have the benefit of other experienced members advice

The walks are great, doogle LOVES them and it helps build up his doggy socialisation skills. And we've met lots of nice people to talk dog with (and all kinds of other stuff ). I wouldn't have heard about prong collars or the furminator otherwise. The new hall for the classes is great, and I liked the way this week you gave us a new excersise to try at home. As for the forum,well it's ok i suppose...ha ha, its great, I think we all love coming on for a wee chat whether it's dog talk or not and it is nice to have a place to ask advice.

Improvements? More nights out! Will have a think to see if I can come up with something a bit more constructive.

But a big thanks to you and marcella and the committe members for all the time you put in.

What difference has the club made to me and my dogs.................................?

Quite simply a HUGE difference.

I don't need to say anymore, I feel there's no need. i love my boys and they now love me, we have an understanding and all 3 of us have respect for each other, 'you guys' taught me that!

People say 'my god, the difference in them is amazing, how did you fix them?' my answer is 'I didn't do it on my own I did it with 20 other people standing behind me, giving me guidance and guiding my dogs!!

There not perfect but there MINE!!!!!

I would have to agree with Fiona on the committee point though. Although its not criticism just a point for improvement.

Marcella, I wouldn't still have the boys if it weren't for you and you picking up the phone 'THAT NIGHT'.

John, The way you helped me handle Keano in class, you taught me, told me he was trainable and he would be ok round other dogs, I never believe you, look at us now, we walk with 25 other dogs!!!

To the rest of you guys, what can I say, my pals!!!!!! My support network.

So many people from so many diffrent backgrounds, reunited as CUMBERNAULD DOG TRAINING!!!!!!!!!

Danny and I thoroughly enjoy the classes - Jack still has much to learn!! I need to do more homework with them but it's difficult out on walks with the two of them. I tried securing one to a fence while training the other but the noise was too much! If I train the two of them together they never 'finish' properly. Perhaps you could show me a way to get the two of them to 'finish' together.... they come to me and sit in front of me it's what happens after that that's the problem.

The new hall is brilliant and it's good to mix with other dog folk. It's good with the amp as I can hear you now.

Like everyone else I'm enjoying the walks and all the support and advice that the club gives. Plus everyone is so friendly. Also no sane person would want to live with an untrained BC So classes are essential.
The forum isn't bad either
This may be off topic but one thought I did have was when the dog warden was at the club would he have done the KC Good Citizen Scheme for us? I know the dog warden in Dundee came to the club there to do it. Mind you I think Dale and I would struggle with Bronze even Still it gives you something definite to work towards though I know it isn't exactly obedience.

I enjoy the social side, I am also a lot fitter than I have been for a long while. I enjoy my dogs a lot more too. I think we have a great wee club

Just to pick up on the committee identification issue, there are plans afoot ( I promise) to have all committee members photos on the website, I think its great that out with training on a tuesday, club members are socialising, and walking their dogs together, the club has always if nothing else been a sociable
