For the past few weeks, even months Rusty has been casting really badly. A brush him about three or four times a day but he still casts a lot. Confused I have never had a dog before so I really don't know what I can do to prevent my mum hoovering three times a day. scratch

Any advice would be appreciated.

Arlene I know what you mean...my two are the same just now.......the more I groom the more that seem to come out Shocked

I think that as the weather starts to get a bit colder the dogs coats might be changing to a warmer 'winter coat' which is why the dogs are casting so much.they are shedding their 'summer coat'.

anyone else have any ideas?

John,

I think you're right regarding dogs going from their summer coats to their winter coats.

My Roxy sheds like mad most of the time, she's been worse than usual lately, and was pretty bad April/May time when she is becoming out of coat.

So, Arlene, i'm afraid casting is just something we have to deal with if we have a dog that casts. Smile

There's a treatment dogs can get called "Shed-less". I don't know anything about it, I would assume it's some sort of shampoo or course of shampoos or something.

Wizard of Paws in Glasgow do it:

I don't know if any other dog groomers have the treatment.

I agree with you there, Kirsty. I see a difference in Roxy when the heating is on. Smile

with central heating, dogs coats dont always go through the usual shedding cycle, as it warm all year for them, so they cast all year!

You have to look close to see Otto's hairs, but he is shedding more I think. But then he's maybe just getting his man coat. Least it doesn't show up on clothes.
