Hi

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas how I can get Star to stop digging up my garden!? He does it all the time and I don't understand why he is doing it. I used to have a dog that would dig holes to bury things and then cover them up again but star is just digging random holes then leaving them.

He is doing it so much that he has hurt one of his paws but that still doesn't seem to stop him.

I have tried watching him and giving him in to trouble every time I see him do it but he still keeps doing it.

Any suggestions would be greatly received!

Fiona

Diesel used to do that .......... Confused would drive me mad because I'd fallen down them whilst cutting the grass! Laughing
To be honest I don't know if there is an easy answer, all we did was keep an eye on him when he was in the garden and shouted no every time he looked like he was about to dig. Our dogs don't get to run free in the back garden a lot .......... there's usually always one of us around to keep an eye.
For the time being it appears to be something he's outgrown ............... but with Diesel I know always to expect the unexpected so I still keep an eye! Laughing

Thanks Marcella. I'm not to fussed about the holes he is making as we are going to slab the garden eventually. Just more concerned that he has hurt himself and he still doing it. Two of his nails on his paw were bleeding and still he wanted to dig! Its like a compulsive need that he has to dig even though his paw must be killing him!

I will continue to scream from the bed room window though I'm sure my neighbors think I'm mad!!!!

Hi,

you have to be in a position to correct when this is happening...or it will become a game for him....try a long line with a stern correction.

hi Fiona

if Starr enjoys digging so much you can make him his very own sand/digging pit where you can bury toys and chews etc for him to find

its just a thought but a lot of fun Very Happy

but while he is recovering from sore paws I wouldn't let him in the garden on his own

Shocked wouldn't that encourage them to dig anywhere they choose then? Could you imagine your dog digging up a neighbours flowerbed to look for a toy? Embarassed Laughing
