no expert ross but i would use either cooled boil water and a little salt or if you have a fist aid box in the house and anti-bacterial wipe or a baby wipe but ones that are not scented!
how deep is it ross? |

How soon after a wound is inflicted does it need to be stitched? It might be too late for that if you delay too long. _________________ "My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet" - Edith Wharton |

Hi Ross,
how long/deep?
If it is small enough not to be stitched I would suggest spray dettol and spray plaster to seal it from dirt......Milo might not be keep to let you touch it. Can he lick it? If he can keep an eye on him and try to stop him cleaning it too much.
Use your own common sense and judgement........any doubts, get it checked out by a vet..the PDSA mill probably be open. If Suzanne L comes on she may be able to offer some more advice.
hope is is OK

hi all the dimensions are about 1 cm long and 3 - 4mm deep with the wound diameter shortening as it goes in, we now washed it with dilutted tcp and used cotton buds to clean out the inside, he wasnt to impressed with that bid, cut some of the hair away around it to stop it sticking to the wound and cleaned the surrounding area. hes now had one of his fav chews now and is sleeping on the rug,
Will be at the vets tm to get it checked,
thanks all

Hi Ross,
keep it clean to avoid infection and you should not have any lasting problems. He will object to you cleanng it hence I find the sprays work well.
He is a strong healthy boy and will bounce back in no time. _________________ John Thomson

hey, i would go with the cooled boiled water and salt personally, the least likely to irritate the wound. you done the right thing by cutting away some fur, and as long as its not bleeding he'll be fine to go overnight. if he does bother with it, an old t-shirt could be put on him to stop him getting to it.
hope hes ok at vets tomorrow, dogs always pick the most awkward times to get a cut or vomiting etc eh? _________________ your cat will never annoy by barking at 3am, he wont attack the postman or eat the curtains, although he may climb them to see how the room looks from the ceiling... |

|
|
All
Quick update on milo, picked him up from thne vet at 520, hes got 3 staples in and the wound is now about 1.5 cms long, they removed quite a bit of his hair as well on his chest, bit sedated and wearing one of my T shirts, looks quite fashionable at the moment, anyway not allowed to let him off the lead at the mo and can only take him on short walks for the next five days, going back for a check up on Tuesday.
Anyway wont be out on sunday as I need to try and keep it clean as much as possible so its pavementsonly,
Anyway thanks all for the advice and things
