Well for those of you have met Holly, you'll know where I'm going with this...
Holly is confident and playful and certainly not shy when just with me or Jaydee, or anyone else in the family, but she is unsure round strangers and other dogs. If someone wants to pet her, they have to crouch right down to her to allow her to come to them... so when people see her when we are out, I ask them to do that, and explain she is just shy.
She cowers down though, and I swear people must think I hit her or something But she's just so shy and I dont know what to do to stop it. When she is just with me she is fine, and strangers obviously wont hang around long enough for me to work on things with her.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can raise her confidence and reduce the shyness? Or any articles they have read?
Im just at a complete loss here _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Hi Ashley
how about taking some treats out with you and asking others to give her a treat when they say hello to get her to realise that people are good as you get treats from them I'm sure new people to the walks and some of the people you meet out about would be happy to help |

Yeh I had tried that right at the start, but she wouldnt go close enough to them to get the treat
I have noticed a bit of an improvement in her mind you...
On our wee walk this evening an enormously overweight lab near me came over to her and although she hid behind my legs to start, she then went over for a sniff!
On Sunday at the training, she got excited when she seen Marcella. She;s started to get excited when she sees strangers now which she never used to do! _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Ashley,
in my experience using strict pack order to reinforce that you and Jaydee are 100% in control of EVERY situation that Holly may find herself. Our natural instinct is to molly coddle small dogs and overly protect them. _________________ John Thomson

Not one have I molly-coddled her... not even when ive seen she is completely scared of something... i've been conscious of what im saying, and tend to ignore her when she is like that, and only praise her when she is doing what i want.
She eats when i say, she plays when i say, she only gets on my knee when i say, we do our training every day... _________________ Ashley with Holly & Murphy.

Whatever the answer is, can I get the opposite solution
Or probably the answer is the same! Pack order. |
