you need to remember that primarily they train 'personal protection' working dogs.......hence they do not want them to interact with anyone other than the handler.

just a wee comment on the podcast and the difference in training mentioned in it, all the dogs that I've trained and helped to train in schutzhund were all socialized from puppy stages and upwards with people and other dogs this way they got used to different situations its only when you get on the training field that you get the dog to switch on so it focuses only on the handler

that makes a great deal more sense when the dog is also a family pet.
