I been looking at training leads on ebay, what length is best? Do you reccomend them at all?

I seen an article somewhere else about using one to get re-call established?

Morning,
lots of us use the police style leather leads, can be adjusted to several different lengths or even for two dogs at once.....about 6 feet long in total.

for recall training a cotton long line is ideal(horse lunge line), it is light enough that the dog is largely unaware that it is there.

Treats are ideal for recall.......always have them ( chopped hot dogs are ideal).
If your dog approaches you even without a command.treat, he will associate you with 'good things' quickly.then start to treat when you command him to come..........notice I said 'command' and not 'ask'.
If your dog does not come immediately when called the long line will allow you the control to enforce the command.

That's what I did with my Westie at first. I'm doing it at the moment with my crossbreed.

Now, however, she only gets a treat (along with praise) if she comes immediately. If she hangs around too long, she gets praise but not a treat. I've found this to work extremely well with Molly as she now knows that if she doesn't come to me as soon as I tell her to, she won't get the treat (and that's really what she wants!).

We started Ash with this one tonight. We didn't meet up with the local 'pack' tonight we went a bit later but he was very well behaved.
A couple of times he was distracted by an interesting smell so I think to start with I going to need the line to correct him.

Oooh thanks John that's one of ours Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
That's a crap pic in that listing but we're selling them week in week out and haven't had a chance to update the listing.
We do them in black, brown, red & tan these days.
I'm thinking of getting my GSD on the end of one of those leads to update the pic Laughing
